First off, I just wanted to say that New England played a great game- and that's saying a lot coming from someone who hates their guts (<-- okay, so maybe that's an exaggeration, but you get the point.) Trust me, though... Philadelphia would have definitely won if a) we hadn't been under so much pressure... I mean, it's our first Superbowl in 24 years, you'd be stressed to, right? and b) we had played our best. McNabb threw three interceptions. Not his best. Pinkston did pretty bad in the first half... not his best. Our players had great moments, but they also had bad moments. Stupid mistakes. Wise choices, but apparently not good enough. We played a sloppy game, I'll admit that. I'm not blaming anyone else but us... we beat ourselves.
But I still think Philadelphia deserved the win. Honestly, I do, and I'm not just saying that because I'm from Philly. We never won a Superbowl... ever, and we only went once. I know, I know, that's our own fault. But listen; Eagles fans HAD to have been more excited than Patriots fans, right? I mean, there were more of us in Jacksonville than there were New England fans! And that's a fact. It was on the news. () You should have seen Philadelphia this past week... You should have been there. It was amazing. Philadelphia fans are known to be some of the most dedicated, hard-core football fans in this country. People were throwing parties night after night after night, schools were having pep rallies, businesses were having pep rallies, the whole CITY was having pep rallies. It was so cool.
Then we lost.
Now Philadelphia seems to be the most depressing city in America. Yeah, I know, I complain too much, sue me. To you, there's no point in writing this whole speech-type thingy.
But too bad. I want to.
If we go next year, it just won't be the same. At all. This year, the city screamed with excitement, saying things like, "We're going to the Superbowl! We're gonna win! E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!" Everyday you'd hear people singing the Eagles song... I even heard it at a Sixers game. But next year, if we do win, it'll be different. People just won't be as happy.
I know, I'm acting like football is life. It isn't. But do you know what? This Superbowl was about more than winning. It was about showing everyone who thought we'd never make it that we can win. It's about team pride, city pride. So much more than bringing home a trophy. New England had their chance... several times. Congratulations. You won. Again. Whoo.
I have so much more I want to say, but, know I realize how none of you really care, so, I'll stop. But I also want to add that if you disagree with ANYTHING I said... please, please, please, please keep it to yourselves, our IM me. I don't want this to turn into a debate. I'm just letting my feelings out.
Wow. I'm such a nerd. But you have to stand up for your city, right?
