Heisser Scheiss Mixtape
T.O.N.E-z has been hard at work and has decided to release a mixtape for the Rydas Records fans and fans of the underground in general. This mixtape will be available for a limited time so I would encourage everyone to check it out while you can: Heisser Scheiss Mixtape (http://www.rydasrecords.com/tonezmixtape.zip)
T.O.N.E-z brandishes his skills on the mixtape which also features Myzery. You'll also hear from a couple of other guests. The "Heisser Scheiss Mixtape" showcases T.O.N.E-z in his element; a rap veteran from the Bronx putting out a mixtape. Don't sleep on this, it won't be available for free forever.
Heisser Scheiss E.P.
T.O.N.E-z first commercial release on Rydas Records will be the "Heisser Scheiss" E.P. While it shares the same name as the mixtape (Heisser Scheiss means hot ****) it doesn't share any of the same material. Rydas Records has been working closely with T.O.N.E-z on this project and I am pleased to say it is almost ready to go to pressing. Featured guests will be Rydas Records own Geist as well as Intrinzik, Lo Key and Myzery. This CD will also feature the production talents of Rydas Records producers PMC and Waste. This project will be a significant release and is something we all are looking forward to.
Now that the projects have been announced, we will clarify who T.O.N.E-z is and why his involvement with Rydas Records and the surrounding underground community is significant:
Who is T.O.N.E-z?
Perhaps you've heard the name before, or by the previous alias Style (or Tony Tone not to be confused with any of the other people to go by that name). T.O.N.E-z signed with Select Records (a powerhouse in the early 90s, featuring acts such as Chubb Rock, Kid N' Play and M.O.P.: for a list of releases go here). His first release on Select Records was entitled "In Tone We Trust". He also released two singles, "The Assassinator" and "What a Brother Know".
After parting was with Select he dropped the Style alias they had given him and started going by T.O.N.E, which eventually morphed into T.O.N.E-z. Over the years he sold thousands of mixtapes, and worked on several releases including a project with Myzery and a full length solo album "The One No-One Expected". His exploits are too numerous to detail, but this interview with the Cavalier Daily will fill in some of the gaps: T.O.N.E. talks influences, goals, lessons learned. A good exclamation point leading up to T.O.N.E-z affiliation with Rydas Records would be his Mannequins / State of Hip Hop video.
Pedigree
If you've already checked out the mixtape and clicked the links you have probably seen the family connections that T.O.N.E-z has. The brother of both Special K formerly of the Treacherous Three and T La Rock both hip-hop legends in their own right. Special K's group (which featured Kool Mo Dee) was signed to Sugar Hill Records and T La Rock had what some consider to be the first Def Jam release, It's Yours. (To read a 1996 New York Times article about T La Rock (which details the T.O.N.E-z/Style and Special K family connection in the tenth paragraph go here. ) Needless to say T.O.N.E-z roots lie in the origins of hip-hop and he and his family has had a profound impact on hip-hop.
T.O.N.E-z and Rydas Records
As many of you know, Rydas Records is part of a particular underground community. Some of you might refer to it as horrorcore, wicked ****, acid rap, dark hip-hop or just plain old underground rap. The myriad of terms and musical styles define a group of enthusiastic and hard-core music fans. T.O.N.E-z, in part through his long-time ties with Myzery has been able to observe the loyalty and devotion that fans of this sub-genre demonstrate. The rap industry as a whole has become jaded and T.O.N.E-z feels that the real hip-hop lies deeper underground. Partially through T.O.N.E-z and Geist being familiar with each other and Rydas Records sharing fans with T.O.N.E-z we were able to develop a working relationship. Rydas Records can say with earnest that we think the underground is better for having someone with the talent, pedigree and love of hip-hop that T.O.N.E-z has. Thanks to his involvement with Rydas Records and the underground as a whole we feel confident that the underground has gained a strong voice in its cries to be heard.
Be on the lookout for more announcements concerning the EP and T.O.N.E-z in the future!
