New Pantheon proclaims it's a new music award that celebrates outstanding artistic achievement, regardless of sales figures or hype. No categories. No pomp. Over 90 superb albums were nominated by various stars, writers, journalists, including Ryan from Pitchforkmedia.com and Chester & Mike from LP.
The Concept
The concept behind the New Pantheon is to honor the most creative and artistic records of the year. Unique to any award which has come before, the award is decided by a specially selected Panel of respected musical figures (the 'Nominators'). The expressed goal of the New Pantheon is accruing audiences for what's next and what's best in current music.
Founder Tom Sarig states "New Pantheon stands for the minority of exceptional artists whose music enlightens, entertains and challenges, and New Pantheon not only subscribes to the belief that there's a bigger potential audience for creative and interesting music, but we plan to provide a unique, as-yet attempted platform of exposure and support for these best artists and albums of the year."
The Rules
Nominators may nominate up to 7 artist albums for the Prize which they feel are outstanding, focusing on those they feel are the most creatively outstanding and artistically accomplished.
All artist albums are eligible:
1. If the nominated album has been released in the U.S. during the eligible release period of July 1, 2004 to October 30th, 2005.
2. If the nominated album has not yet been certified Gold by the RIAA for sales of over 500,000 albums.
Unfortunately my boys, The Animal Collective barely lost to Sufjan Stevens. But that's ok. Check it out.
