New trial date set for April in Vanderbilt rape case

Judge Monte Watkins set a trial date for opening statements on April 4 for the retrial of Cory Batey and Brandon Vandenburg, who were convicted in January on multiple charges in the June 2013 case, according to Watkins' office. Watkins declared a mistrial last June due to juror misconduct. In all, four former Vanderbilt football players were each charged with five counts of aggravated rape and two counts of aggravated sexual battery in the case.
