i was watching the uk news this morning and this came on

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/7047244.stm

this is the biggest pile of bullshit i have ever heard in al my life. obese people have themselves to blame, they choose what they eat, so therefore its their fault they are overweight. the government doesn't force people to eat un-healthy food, we chose to eat it, its a personal decision.

also today parents of obese children are saying the government are to blame for their children being overweight.......what a pile of ****. i have 3 kids and i make sure they eat healthy food and don't eat too much fast food and sweets. every parent is in control of wha their child eats and if their child becomes obese its their fault. i am slightly overweight and i know its my fault, my lifestyle isn't very healthy, but i have myself to blame for it. the people of britian should stop shifting the balme on other people and realise that obese people are to blame for their condition.

meh, i totally agree with you. personally, i blame the parents (excussing people who have digestion problems or under acting theroids) bc its the parents which install healthy balanced eating in younger life. the government isnt to blame at all all they can take responsibilty for is school dinners which have been changed already.

people with medical conditons i feel for because its not in their control. it must be awful to have no control over your weight due to a medical condition.

yup you are to blame (the person self). healthy eating is cheaper, eventhough its not as good as junk food. i personally hate mcdonnals, tastes like plastic or am i wrong?

I love McDonalds lol.

But yeah when it comes to fat kids the parents are definitely to blame, it's their responsibility to make sure they eat properly... when they get older it's the person's own responsibility though. The fact that's been around for the past few days is pretty worrying though; "By 2050 60% of men, 50% of women, and 26% of children and young people will be obese"... that's so bad.

The people are to blame for the most of it. Also modern day stuff like easy acess to cars..watching too much TV that sorta stuff too..nowadays people also dont exercise that much.

Exactly, I don't get it when people would start suing multimational corporations like McDonald's for tuning them obese. I mean like it's not like they're forcing you to eat these greasy burgers full of transfat and ****. And it's not anyone else's fault or problem that they just sit around all day and munch on fat

well i know i'm to blame for being overweight ^^

i spsoe the government does bear SOME blame, over the years they never really put much focus on healthy lifestyles and what not really until the last few years when they started to change their tune, even so people still eat themselves silly, governments could come up with programs that target parents of unhealthy children and make em ship up or ship out, same with targetting schools with healthy programs/fitness programs aimed to make more kids play some form of sport/eat some form fo healthy food. while it cant be TOTALLY the gov's fault, there hasto be some form of responsibility taken by the government as we DO elect them to aid, we pay taxes so they can use the money to form projects in health, infastructure etc. in anycase, a healthy work force is a strong working force, more work is done, people arent as lazy, so its really something the government can look to

I think it's the person's own fault. Like what's been said already, it's your own choice as to how you eat, how much exercise you do etc. There might be extenuating circumstances that affect you, but if you were really worried about your health, you'd make the extra effort.

People who blame other people for their obesity are just trying to shift the blame so they don't look like fools for doing that to their own bodies. Obviously with young children the responsibility is shared with the parents, and people with medical conditions can't help it, but other than that I'm yet to hear an excuse as to why someone isn't responsible for their own obesity.

I guess it also comes down to your metabolism. I eat like a horse and don't do a lot of exercise, but am still really skinny. I get told all the time that I'm too skinny and need to put some weight on. So depending on how your body reacts to food, you have to take that into consideration with your diet, exercise regime etc.

[wow that was a big rant from me xD]

Actually this would be true for a few generations

Most people are heavily influenced by their upbringing & advertising, the result of which was not addressed much when I was in school, we didn't get told too much about healthy eating. Once you grow up in this enviroment it's hard to break out of it, same goes for popular culture, people are convinced somethings are good because thats all they have been exposed to all their life & unless they educate themselves or get directed will continue to feel the same.... how many people list Blockbuster movies and MTV/Kerrang endorsed albums as the best of all time when they clearly aren't?

Why is it certain areas have more narks and more have addicts

why is it some areas of the UK like this and that but not this!

It's all to do with up bringing :)
