I recently purchased a copy of Office 2010 Professional Plus to replace the Office Starter that came with my computer. Since I had a workplace discount, I purchased a physical copy of Office and didn't download it. Upon installing Office 2010 Pro, I found that documents and excel sheets were still opening into Starter when opened from the desktop... there was no problem with the install and Office 2010 Pro did, and still does, work normally, but my files were still defaulting to Starter.

I uninstalled Office Starter thinking that would correct the problem but instead it turned all of my file icons an eye-catching orange-gold and now they can only be opened by first opening Office 2010 Pro and then manually opening them from there. Not ideal. When double-clicking these gold icons they just pop up a window giving me a few choises 1) use office starter 2) purchase the full version of office or 3) authenticate an already purchased copy. Naturally I tried the third option but it won't accept my product code.

I'm sure the fix to this is simple but I haven't been able to figure it out. What do I do?
