Old age = Harley

I'm just curious. How many of you are in your 30's and own a Harley? Heres my issue. I'm a older guy, Im 38, and it just seems every assclown I know goes out and buys a Harley. Like its some mid-life crisis. Then they ride it once or twice and let the thing collect dust. I have had a lot of friends as of late go out and buy one. They are trying to pursue me into it. Sorry......... I just can't do it. I just get the impression that your accepting that your old. But, I did take their advise and kinda bought a motocycle. 2011 Husquvarna TXC250 dirtbike. lol

i can't stand harley's, i'd ride a foreign cruiser any day of the week over a clunky harley. I ride a 600 sportbike and love every bit of it, i mostly commute with it, but would love to get a goldwing or a nice boulevard to roll cross country with.

I hope it doesn't mean your getting old....I've had 2 of them and currently own a street glide. Although the last year I barely had the chance to ride it because I was always hauling something with my truck. I love it but between the insurance and what I paid for it I'm considering selling it and buying a toy hauler!

I love when people say a "clunky" Harley. what exactly is "clunky" about a Harley? The same suspension that comes on all Honda motorcycles?

i had a bagger, a FLHX Street Glide, a Buell, a sporty and a softail. Ill buy another Street Glide soon enough. I miss my old one but downsizing was part of the economy. Love to cruise! I bought my Street Glide at 27..... I guess I was ahead of the mid life crises curve LOL

clunky refers to the retarded vibrations and rattling that causes things to shake loose. also the transmissions are far from smooth. it's a matter of opinion that i don't like harleys, i've ridden street glides, fat boys, sportsters, night trains, the only one i liked was the street glide and even that just didn't suite me well. Don't even get me started on the Buell's, those things are slow as **** for all the displacement, they're junk too. My 600 (nearly half the displacement) can run with a lightning no problem and i won't have to stop to fix something after 5k miles.

again, no hard feelings here fellas, this is just my opinion.

i agree. also the motors are still ancient push rod and air cooled, slow and unreliable

I've never owned a street bike but I think they're cool and have nothing against them. With that being said I've never had one single problem with either Harley motor and neither have ever leaked a drop of oil. They're not nearly as fast as a street bike but they weren't designed to be either. My street glide feels like Im riding on pillows

An older friend of mine has been riding bikes ALL his life, so about 40 years or more, and mostly Hondas. For whatever reason he decided to get a top-of-the-line Harley, don't know what it's called, all I know is the UPS man saw it and told me it was the "nicest" Harley you can buy. Anyway, he says that the harley will not pull itself up a hill. He is riding and is constantly downshifting until he is in third gear just to pull a hill. He tells me that his '86 Gold Wing Aspencade is a much better performing bike and will pull hills in 6th gear no problem. Yet, he still loves the Harley even though it goes through tires and brakes three times faster than his newer Gold Wing and it is in the shop frequently. Oh, and over the winter he had to do a big bore, cams, and pipes just to get the Harley to pull it's own weight on the road.

I'm not bashing, just relating a true story.

it's not too uncommon in the harley world, they are torque monsters.

which has me wondering about hoser's friends new state of the art harley. IF there's one thing a harley can do it's maintain speed up a hill (with 2 passengers while pulling a trailer), with all that torque they should not be losing speed or requiring a down shift like the *** bikes do. On some harleys the last gear is strictly highway, so maybe if he's in 6th and approaches a hill, that last gear is real low for smooth cruising, he should be in 5th if he's on some hilly roads, i still find it hard to believe that the hog won't hold speed up a hill at cruising speeds, especially with all the torque they've got.

Harley's are bad ***. Just gotta know how to make them go. Harley and Buell dominate NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle drag racing. Harley's also do pretty well on the AMA Pro mile dirt tracks. In stock form, Harley's are anemic in comparison to the metric bikes....kinda like a bone stock 04-05 trx450 compared to a stock LTR450.
