The Pee-Wee Herman Show

Reubens auditioned for Saturday Night Live for the 1980-1981 season (along with future stars Jim Carrey, John Goodman, Dom Irrera, and Robert Townsend), but wasn't accepted into the cast. Instead, he started a stage show with the Herman character. Originally, Reubens imbued "Pee-Wee" with a sexuality that was later toned down as the character made the transition from raucous night club to children's television (though sexual innuendo was still readily apparent, especially with the "Cowboy Curtis" and "Miss Yvonne" segments; Curtis was played by actor Laurence Fishburne and Miss Yvonne was played by Lynne Marie Stewart). His stage show was immortalized by HBO when The Pee-Wee Herman Show was aired in 1981.

The show featured the writing and acting of Groundlings alums Phil Hartman and John Paragon, who would both reprise their characters on Pee-Wee's Playhouse. The Pee-Wee Herman Show played for 5 sellout months at The Roxy Theatre in L.A., whereupon HBO filmed it and aired it as a special on September 11, 1981.

In 1980, Reubens landed a small role in the film The Blues Brothers. He also appeared in Cheech and Chong's Next Movie in 1980 and Nice Dreams in 1981, and Meatballs Part II in 1984 with Misty Rowe.

I love Pee-Wee Playhouse. He was also in the movie Blow with Johnny Depp. He played a gay drug dealer I think I haven't seen the movie in so long. Now Pee-Wee Playhouse is shown on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim at 11:00 pm

Yea becuase like when I go to bed at 2 in the morning I am looking for freakin Mission Hill's zany antics and funny/dry humour and wimsical animation. Not Pee Wee, I saw it once or twice when i was younger but seriously I watched it a few times and you get a couple of laughs but in all actuallity its like dumb jokes. He goes to the house. Checks out his toys. Plays with his ants. Finds the secret word of the day and gets someone to say it then says it himself. The cartoon king shows up, or cowboy curtis will come along(*** bless laurence fishbourne) and crack a few jokes leave. Macig screen will have some play time. He jumps on his scooter. End.

Yea.

Mission Hill Pwns.

I feel bad for some of you for being young-uns. I know my generation grew up with Rocko's Modern Life and Ren & Stimpy. Pee-wee Herman show's a classic! Don't disrespect!

Anyway, how funny is it to see Morpheus play a cowboy?

Not very funny I'm guessing seeing as though he looked mad dumb. Lol and what do you mean young-uns seeing as I too watched Rocko's Modern Life back when I was young and litterally cried for a pet chiuahuah(SP) when I was younger becuase I thought Ren and Stimpy was the ****. Lol I mean technically The Illiad and the Oddesy are classics but that doesn't mean it's truely anything special.
