Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen was named Friday as winner of Major League Baseball's Roberto Clemente Award for a combination of playing success and humanitarian efforts. The award is named for the for the former Pirates slugger, a Hall of Famer from Puerto Rico, who died in a plane crash on New Year's Eve 1972 while attempting to deliver supplies to earthquake victims in Nicaragua. McCutchen, the 2013 National League Most Valuable Player, is only the second Pirates player to win the award named for the former Pittsburgh star, following Willie Stargell in 1974.
