Prayers and protests in Missouri for anniversary of police shooting

(Reuters) - Marches, prayers and a moment of silence are planned on Sunday in Ferguson, Missouri, to mark a year since an unarmed black teenager was fatally shot by a white police officer, sparking large protests and a national debate on race and justice. The shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown on Aug. 9, 2014, thrust this mostly black St. Louis suburb into the national spotlight and sparked months of protests, including incidents of rioting and arson. Another name was added to that list on Friday when unarmed 19-year-old Christian Taylor, a black college student, was shot dead by a white police officer in Arlington, Texas.
