Pride and Prejudice

It was truly a great movie. The costumes were utterly fantastic, the acting was great, the plot interesting(yes, I know it is based on a book), and boring as hell.

Keira Knightly does a great job portraying Lizzie, the eldest of her siblings who has not yet been married off. She encounters Mr. Darcy(Matthew Macfadyen), the friend of Sir William Lucas(Sylvester Morand), and quickly shows attraction to him, although she will not admit it to her friends.

^^^needless to say, chick flic.

I would say this is one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. The only lacking thing is something to keep us awake.

Pride and Prejudice, and all of Jane Austen's work were the soapies of the day, it like someone taking the collective works of days of our lives, sending them a couple of hundred years into the future and then holding them up as a work of art. Jane Austen was and is a hack.

Did you see the Pride and Prejudice that was an A and E production with Colin Firth? I was wondering if you had, how do they compare?

I saw the version with Colin Firth and I have to say that I thought it vastly superior to this latest version. I disliked Keira Knightley in the role of Elizabeth, somehow she lacked the sweetness that Jane Austen portrayed her as posessing in the book. Physically, Knightley is far too thin to play the part, given that a woman of her age and social standing at that period would have appeared much 'rounder' and better nourished.

In my opinion, no one could play Mr Darcy better than Colin Firth (Could you GET any more gorgeous than this???).

Dame Judi Dench however made a fantastic Lady Catherine de Bourg, far better than in the previous version and I thought that Brenda Blethyn was excellent as Mrs Bennett.

The Kiera Knightley version was indeed interesting and easy on the eye, but speaking as one who has read Jane Austen I did not feel that it did the author justice.

To be honest I thought that might be the case. I have also read the books of Jane Austen and loved the version with Colin Firth so much that I bought it. I think he made the ideal Mr. Darcy. I will probably see it eventually but I don't think I will rush.

Pride and Prejudice is my favorite book. I have read it five times, and am due to read it again(once every two years). I think this version of the movie is much better than the older version. All of the best parts of the book were included, and the story was complete. The older version left out many of my favorite quips from the book, and I was thrilled to see them included in this version.

There are a few aspects of the book as well as the movie that take a bit of intelligence to understand, so it isn't for everyone. I suggest those people go see Curious George instead.
