Problem with Windows Vista and Trend Micro PC-Cillin Security 14

My computer takes a long time to shut down and when i log back onto windows

it always tells me that windows was shut down incorrectly due to an

incompatibility with my version of windows caused by my Trend Micro PC-Cillin

Security 14 program. It offers the suggestion to go to the Trend Micro

website for updates, but there aren't any updates for it that have to do with

vista integration. So I shut off my windows firewall in order to avoid

firewall/virus software conflicts, but my computer is still having issues.

Anyone have suggestions?

Hello,

My suggestion is the opposite of what you had done. I would keep my

windows firewall on and uninstall Trend ( I had Trend too, then I

switched ). There are free antivirus programs available in the web

sites. The 2 programs I heard most often are AVAST and AVG. They are

reported to have done an excellent job. When I had Trend my laptop was

quite slow too. I'm not saying Trend is THE culprit. I'm merely making

an observation. You'll get more, much more, answers on this issue. Sit

back and wait.

I would first contact Trend tech support. Their support has gotten

spotty, but you may get an answer.

I dumped Trend (I was using XP at the time) because it was taking too

long to boot and shut down. I've since migrated to ESET Smart Security

(includes NOD32 AV) and it's a big difference.

Submit Consumer Support Case...

https://esupport.trendmicro.com/support/con...submitonline.do

....and state your problem (request uninstall procedure and a refund).

Don't forget to check out Avast and Avg. Brink, one of the moderators,

recommends Avast which he said he uses. He told me Avast is free, but

requires registration every year. But absolutely free. By the way I'm

using McAfee ( not free), and I have no problem with it. But remember,

some swear by their antivirus programs, some say "dump it". Your choice.

Yeah I'm trying out AVG right now. It seems pretty popular. I'm having them

e-mail me info about how well their products work with vista and i'm using

their trial version so I can have my own opinion about it. Thanks for your

suggestions.

I had the exact same problem. It would take 10-15 minutes or more to shut

down or restart only to have windows state that it did not shut down

properly.

I ended up removing Trend Micro PC-Cillin and installed AVG instead. No more

problems.
