Professional Plus CD key work for preloaded office version on new laptop?

Just bought a new netbook that does not have a CD/DVD drive. It comes with Office preloaded, but requires a license for activation. I can receive a Professional Plus key through work, but was wondering if that license key will work on the version that's preloaded on my Gateway.
