Is there a news client that gives any way to search large numbers of

headers at once?

Dunno.

But if your news-server implements RFC2980, you can use telnet to do an

XPAT search of the subject headers in the newsgroup articles in a

specified newsgroup on the server (accessing a news-server with telnet is

a mild form of geek-fun) . . . .

Or you can use various search tools to search your downloaded

headers-lists (simple text-editor might do, depending on how the list is

stored by your news-client) or articles (grep etc., ditto).

And there's always Google ("I'm Feeling Lucky") Groups.

When a system is set up to accomplish some goal, a

new entity has come into being--the system itself.

Now the system itself has to be dealt with.

He is using Xnews. Xnews uses XPAT to reconstruct threads, which I find

highly useful, and the header/body window has a header search box. The only

down side is that Xnews is an online reader so he'd have to repull a lot of

headers. Unless it's going into the score file for future pulls.

Can it search the path headers en masse?

How do I get this "header/body window" to come up?

By opening a group. You're looking at it right now, as you read this.

It's at the bottom of the window, just to the left of the status bar that

advances (red) as data comes in be it headers or bodies. It's the only text

box there. There's a "T" button to the left of it which threads or

dethreads the headers and an "S" button to the right which, if you right-

click it, will change to an "F" to sort headers respectively by "Subject" or

"From". A left-click will clear the field and show all the headers you

currently have pulled.

That doesn't search the entire header. It only searchs "from" and

"subject." I want to search the paths.

Then you'll have to write a custom score file entry. See the "scoring.txt",

"sample-score.ini" and "manual.html" in the Xnews folder.
