LPGirl
Ok i saw this on another forums and read it, and decided to share it, its always good to know that bit extra that could help you if you got in a situation like rape. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Through a Rapist's Eyes (No Joke) This is important information for females of ALL ages. A group of rapists and date rapists in prison were interviewed on what they look for in a potential victim and here are some interesting facts: 1) The first thing men look for in a potential victim is hairstyle. They are most likely to go after a woman with a ponytail, bun, braid or other hairstyle that can easily be grabbed. They are also likely to go after a woman with long hair. Women with short hair are not common targets. 2) The second thing men look for is clothing. They will look for women who's clothing is easy to remove quickly. Many of them carry scissors around specifically to cut clothing. 3) They also look for women on their cell phone, searching through their purse or doing other activities while walking because they are off guard and can be easily overpowered. 4) Men are most likely to attack & rape in the early morning, between 5:00a.m. and 8:30a.m. 5) The number one place women are abducted from/attacked is grocery store parking lots. Number two is office parking lots/garages. Number three is public restrooms. 6) The thing about these men is that they are looking to grab a woman and quickly move her to another location where they don't have to worry about getting caught. 7) Only 2% said they carried weapons because rape carries a 3-5 year sentence but rape with a weapon is 15-20 years. 8) If you put up any kind of a fight at all, they get discouraged because it only takes a minute or two for them to realize that going after you isn't worth it because it will be time-consuming. 9) These men said they would not pick on women who have umbrellas, or other similar objects that can be used from a distance, in their hands. Keys are not a deterrent because you have to get really close to the attacker to use them as a weapon. So, the idea is to convince these guys you're not worth it. 10) Several defense mechanisms he taught us are: If someone is following behind you on a street or in a garage or with you in an elevator or stairwell, look them in the face and ask them a question, like what time is it, or make general small talk: "I can't believe it is so cold out here", "we're in for a bad winter." Now you've seen their face and could identify them in a line-up; you lose appeal as a target. 11) If someone is coming toward you, hold out your hands in front of you and yell STOP or STAY BACK ! Most of the rapists this man talked to said they'd leave a woman alone if she yelled or showed that she would not be afraid to fight back. Again, they are looking for an EASY target. 12) If you carry pepper spray (this instructor was a huge advocate of it and carries it with him wherever he goes,) yell I HAVE PEPPER SPRAY and holding it out will be a deterrent. 13) If someone grabs you, you can't beat them with strength but you can by outsmarting them. If you are grabbed around the waist from behind, pinch the attacker either under the arm (between the elbow and armpit) OR in the upper inner thigh VERY VERY HARD. One woman in a class this guy taught told him she used the underarm pinch on a guy who was trying to date rape her and was so upset she broke through the skin and tore out muscle strands - the guy needed stitches. Try pinching yourself in those places as hard as you can stand it; it hurts. 14) After the initial hit, always GO for the GROIN. I know from a particularly unfortunate experience that if you slap a guy's parts it is extremely painful. You might think that you'll anger the guy and make him want to hurt you more, but the thing these rapists told our instructor is that they want a woman who will not cause a lot of trouble. Start causing trouble, and he's out of there. 15) When the guy puts his hands up to you, grab his first two fingers and bend them back as far as possible with as much pressure pushing down on them as possible. The instructor did it to me without using much pressure, and I ended on my knees and both knuckles cracked audibly. 16) Of course the things we always hear still apply. Always be aware of your surroundings, take someone with you if you can and if you see any odd behavior, don't dismiss it, go with your instincts!!! You may feel a little silly at the time, but you'd feel much worse if the guy really was trouble. Guys - please forward to the female members of your family and all your female friends and associates.

Ravynlee
Wow - brilliant - thanks for sharing. Scary thing is that my work collaegaues and I have been talking about similar incidences at work - specifically the fact that after 4/5 months of walking home every night alone in the dark (stupid, I know, but on my wage it's not llike I can afford taxi's everynight) that nothing had happened to me. I was starting to feel invincable until a woman was attacked only a few blocks from my home last week and that shook me up. I'm not a big girl (used to be) and I know I could potentially pose as an easy target judging by what I just read, I'm quite short, slight of build and quiet natured. I usually always have my hair up in a ponytail cause it's long. Still I was always stupidly under the impression that I would never appeal to a potential attacker - now I realise that it can happen to anyone, why not me? *shudders* I'm printing this out and keeping it. That way when I start slipping back into that old 'it-won't-happen-to-me' frame of mind I can snap myself back into reality. THANKYOU! You may have just saved even one person from injury and god forbid worse and that's what's important. Quote http://www.sucksbbs.net/data/MetaMirrorCache/8a6798b252d89e12b3d476bb0fa63027.jpg ~ If I'm not here, I'm there ^ ~ ~ All new general discussion forum ~ Click pic !!! ~
allieking
from someone who has had personal experiance of rape i wish i would have known this when i was 13, also another thing that might help, if you ever get attacked never shout help, not many ppl respond to that but if you shout fire!!! more ppl will respond, i got told that by a police man. shadowfax1007
Nice Info  Its extremely sad there are creeps out there who could do such horrible things to women, no one deserves that, infact, its not just women who are rapped. More males are raped in Australia, then females, now thats scary. If the punishment for rape is 3-5 without a weapon, then thats pathetic and the punishment should be more suitable for the crime. Rape can leave a person scared for life, not to mention the risk of getting pregnant or AIDS or something similar. I feel sorry for anyone who experiences such a horrible thing Quote [broken External Image]:http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/2574/brissigyp1.jpg [broken External Image]:http://card.mygamercard.net/sig/shadowfax1007.png
allieking
oh and another thing, if you are unfortunate enough to be a victim of rape REPORT IT TO THE POLICE, i didn't and the person who did it to me is still free and has proberbly done it to others. i regret not telling the police everyday, i also think it would have helped me come to terms with it all. its not easy getting over something like that, but if you report it you will have help to get through it, unlike me who told no one and had to get myself through it. its 16 years since it happend and i'm a much stronger person and i'm getting on with my life. Ravynlee
damn u know how i think! :O joke Agreed Viking - that comment, whether said in jest or not, was certainly out of place in such a thread, sorry. And allieking; sorry to hear about your own experience. It's scary to think just how many people are affected by such a thing, not just women as was stated in the original post, but men too. I can quote statistics for you but we all know the facts are higher than we're lead to believe. I can name you at least 5 people (and close friends/associates that I have semi-regular conact with and two of my immediate family members, of BOTH sexes) who have been raped or sexually assaulted. If you must know I too have been one of them. It's certainly more common than many people think. It's also difficult to fathom that such incidences are on the rise in this day and age - we are a generation of emotion repressors; having said that there are more violent crimes than there were 50 years ago and sadly it too is getting worse. Mankind is killing himself and we're so apathetic about it it's just disturbing... Almost as disturbing as using humour to abate an uncomfortable conversation (as above). So not warranted cloud. *frowns* Very disappointed. allieking
think clouds reaction was an uncomfortable one, i have been in that situation before where ppl don't know what to say when i tell them whats happend so they turn to humor to lighten the mood. i don't think cloud meant any harm she was just stuck for something to say. Ravynlee
Maybe... I didn't want to sound over-the-top but I did want it known in no uncertain terms that joking, even to lighten the mood, about/in regards to rape isn't cool. I kinda made mention that cloud was probably uncomfortable about it, but my stance on the matter would be it'd be better to say nothing rather than risk offending someone/a lot of people who've been assaulted and may perhaps misconstrue such a comment. Obviously I wasn't the only one to think that way (thanks Viking:)) It's no biggie really. I certainly dont want to start a war. But it did irritate me. Call it a knee-jerk reaction, sorry. Friðbjörn
Yeah Cloud probably didn't mean to hurt anyone, but I still don't recommend that kind of response. People are going to misunderstand that. Black_Angel
Thanks for that, just shows that it can happen to anyone, some good tips there too, I'll have to memorise them just in case... Quote i still love you, girl from mars.
emrawkgrrl
Interesting read. It's also important to remember even if you don't fall into many of those catagories, it doesn't mean it won't happen. Couple of other self-defense tips. After the yelling of STOP you can push on the shoulders hard to stop them coming forward and buy yourself some seconds. Also, you can slap with a flat palm, using the joint between the fingers and metacarpals, around the cheekbone. misery
I'm friends with two girls who have been raped.. one didn't report it, and she really regrets it. The other one, who I also am co-workers with, was raped by my boss. Luckily, she was in her senses enough to report it. Needless to say, he got fired, and is probably serving jail time right now. So, like others above me were saying.. girls, if it happens (knock on wood), please report it. Sygy
i think its really good that some one has brought this to every1's attention. Ok, never ever kick a guy in the crotch.trust me, i did it and the guy went mental and beat the shit out of me. What the article thingy failed to mention was that 80% of rapes already been planned out. And also 75% 0f rapes are by people you know and trust. True story: i was at a party and yes i know me and my friends shouldnt have been drinking but anyho. I introduced this guy called Warwick which i really had a crush on to my best friend. Warick proceeds to try and rape me. I fight him off and run home with nothing more than a few bruises. after i leave he follows my best frind to the bathroom and rapes her. after raping her he simply get ups and says goodbye to every1 really calming like nothing has happened. Later they find my best friend in the bathroom. Unfortunatly Warick gets away with this shit because 1) no one witnessed it or saw anything unsual. 2) we were all completely wasted 3) he clean up after himself so there was no trace of whatever its called afterwards. 4) My best friend doesnt want to press charges because she is to embarressed. also a girl in the year above me was raped by two guys in open daylight near a busy road. My conclusion to this little ramble..Dont drink to much, stay with a group of at least 4 friends or tried to get a REGISTERED mini-cab back home. allieking
i agree with you sygy, mos women are raped by ppl they know, the guy who did it to me was my boyfriend. we had been together a year and i said no to sex, so he pinned me down and forced me to do it. part of the resason i didn'treport it was because he was my boyfriend and i thought no one would belive me. i regret not fighting back, but when something like that happens you freeze and just wish it was over. i hope all you girls are taking all of this thread in, because if what happend to me can help stop it happening to anyone else it would make what happend to me a little easier to live with. 1 Quote [broken External Image]:http://www.inoshishi.co.uk/allie/aa.png
