From the article:

"MacLeod states that the Ubuntu desktop looks "dated." I agree that the
default settings aren't particularly pretty, but it doesn't take
"commandline intervention" to change these settings, either. Looks are
often secondary to function (at least when it comes down to crunch time)
and while I agree with quoted journalist Ivo Vegter that at times Linux
can throw a puzzling error message with a somewhat obscure fix -- it
happens in other operating systems as well.

If Windows 7 is released and works well, it isn't a death sentence. It's
not even a real blow. It's a challenge, it's a shot at rethinking some
code, an opportunity to venture further with other applications, and
perhaps even a chance to sit back and say, "This is an area where the
rest of the industry needs to catch up to Linux."

Competition can be good. This is why Microsoft needs Linux."

The fact that Linux was never discussed on windowsxp.general doesn't
tell you anything?

The fact that MS is training their sales staff and Best Buys's to diss
Linux doesn't tell them anything, so I don't think an astute
chronological observation is going to tell them anything.

Yeah, they're pathetic when at their best.

Projecting again huh?
Figures.

Agreed. Very dated, actually.

<span style="color:blue">

No they're not. They're sort of pathetic.

Except on Linux where it looks better than it really is.

<span style="color:blue">

No, Linux on the desktop is already dead. It died sometime back in the early
2000s. The crowd that was going to adopt Linux - you know - the estranged,
the rainbow coalition, the painfully politically correct college and
university types - that crowd that was going to adopt Linux moved on to
Apple Macs. Well, maybe not in Spain, but aren't there parts of Spain that
don't have indoor plumbing yet?

It's irrelevant.

I'd laugh, but I heard that joke before. Mandrake filed for bankruptcy
didn't it?

<span style="color:blue">

On the desktop there is no competition between Linux and Microsoft. There,
the competition is played out on Apple Macs where Windows competes with OSX.

That no one was impolite enough to misuse the newsgroup?
