Or at least don't let gas sit in it... Got a feeling the guy I bought my XR400 off said he put an additive in the tank when he wasn't using it.. looks like it was maple syrup..industrial version..

Hard starting problem solved!

It's so thick it's chipping off on the jets where I had a spanner on them.. (wrench to the locals)

I have heard from 3 friends that have yamaha 660 raptors if they do not drain thier carb every time they store thier quads for more than a week it gets all clogged up with crystalized **** like that. All the **** in gas now sucks. My lawnmower is a pain in the *** after it sits too

Can you fit an 04/05 carb on those like on the 400ex?
Not sure, but I wondered the same thing. Motor is the same..

After a long soak in acetone the bowl actually cleaned up ok.. the rest took lots of carb cleaner and lots of scrubbing.. looks pretty good now.. all blew out fine.. everything seems clear... we'll see...

Im sure you can get the carb to work on the motor... Just wondering about if the size of the carb would cause a fitment issue... Putting that carb on my buddies EX made a night and day diffrence. You can find them cheap too, I've found 2 for $50 bucks each...

I think the guy I bought it off said it sat for a year, but there is no wear on the bike at all and he bought it new so maybe way longer, it's an 02... then another 18 months in my garage, my quad has sat for over 6 months before and been fine. I don't know if this was additive or just the ethanol in the gas

That crud has got to be years of time. What did the tank look like if the carb was like that? My fuel is always on and it does not go off. Even in the winter i store the carb and tank full of fuel with sta-bil. I've never seen any of my carbs be dirty and i never have a problem with them.

I truly believe when guys turn their fuel off and they dont' drain the carb or tank, it's just making things worse, you might as well leave your fuel on when it's stored unless you drain the carb or the tank.

The guy I got the bike off was a complete numpty.. he'd tried to mod a few things and ****** them all up.. apart from rear tire is worn where he rode it on the street there is virtually no wear on the bike.. He had it since 03 so 7 years of short trips and no TLC I think was the issue... It got buried in my garage for a year or two as well.. It would just about start after 20mins of kicking.. (jetting was way for mods + this gunk), when I first got it... it was a project bike / supermoto prospective. I got some bits coming next week for it and it's all cleaned up pretty well, so hopefully it'll be back to Honda standards.. nice and reliable..
