Former Bristol man faces child *********** charges

01:00 AM EST on Thursday, January 1, 2009

State police have charged a former Bristol man with creating,

transmitting and possessing child ***********.

Jonathan Comeau, 60, now of Natchitoches, La., appeared before Judge

Michael A. Higgins in District Court, Providence. Judge Higgins set

bail at $50,000.

Detective Lt. David S. Neill said yesterday he did not know whether

Comeau had posted bail.

Neill said the case dates to October, when the National Center for

Missing and Exploited Children, a private organization, notified the

state police computer crimes unit that child *********** was being

transmitted from a computer at 33 Birchwood Drive, Bristol, Comeau?s

former address.

The detective said that investigators obtained search warrants that

enabled investigators to seize computer information at the Birchwood

Drive address and to take ?forensic information? from the computer?s

hard drive.

He said the investigators found ?several hundred? images of alleged

child *********** on the hard drive.

Neill said the police learned that Comeau was due to return to Rhode

Island to consult a lawyer, and officers were waiting on Monday when

Comeau left the office of the lawyer, whom Neill declined to identify

on the grounds that the lawyer was not involved in the child-

*********** case.
