scan times

[just a normal guy]

Hi all, after having a virus 'Win32/Ramnit' or something similar being picked up by microsoft security essentials the other day, it now keeps on asking me to perform a full scan, however now that I am performing a full scan to check for traces of the virus, it seems to be taking ever so long? currently it has taken me 4.5 hours and the bar currently looks like it is at most half a centremetre progressed. I want to know is this normal to take so long and if anyone can give me a ballpark figure on the time needed to complete a full scan as I know the amount of files on the computer effect the times...
