security essentials says i haven't run a scan lately but i run a full scan daily

i schedule a full scan at 4 am every day, yet i recently have been seeing " your PC is potentially unprotected" because a scan has not been run in a while.
i still get the message after running a scan .
what is the cause of that and should i be worried?
