Should N.O be rebuilt?

Then look at the alternatives.

NO is abandoned, and all of the residents become refugees, heading for other city centres in the region.

Those residents of NO that you have issues with don't just dissappear, although current efforts to help seem to indicate that the gov couldn't give a flying **** whether they live or die.

Those residents that decide to stay on, despite a lack of assistance and funding, become tools of Castro, aiding the infiltration of communist activists, leading to more geurrilla warfare activities within America.

Has any of the above changed your outlook?

"geurrilla warfare activities within America."

Well I know theres geurrillas running around New Orleans right now with AK-47s but they dont really count as "warfare", more like "geurrilla welfare". But other than that we dont have any kind of geurrilla warfare activities, not that I've ever known of.

"despite a lack of assistance and funding"

Under funding? Are you crazy?

Just goes to show you, if people would HELP each other in times of disaster instead of stealing other things besides food and water, raping, and murdering, then perhaps a mission to TAKE BACK THE CITY by force would not be needed.
Geurrilla warfare my ***. In order to help those who needed it, (and some who don't deserve it) required us to take a firm stance against the chaos.

What were the other options ?? Just drop an airplane full of food down on em first ??

Yeah that would ******* help wouldn't it ??

You'd create such a ******* mass hysteria that is even WORSE then what the troops were dealing with now.

You think in the short-term.

I look back, and I look forward, and I ponder on how we got here, and where this is heading.

The people of NO are a passionate people. The city itself is so unique and almost of it's own world. I think even without help of the gov or any agencies, the people of NO would come together and find someway, even over a decade, and rebuild, and I certainly hope they do. There is noplace like NO. When they Do rebuild, you can bet your *** I'll be there to help any way I can. I can't imagine a south without it.It will be better than it has been for decades. I think the true spirit of the city is what you will see when it is all said and done

Yeah a 3rd World.
**** that. New Orleans has also been the birthplace of many forms of art that are unique to the World in general. and generic to New Orleans.

I say that cities like New Orleans are more worthy of support and reconstruction than anything destroyed by the invasion of Iraq.

Bring it home, Bush. It's your only hope of survival, politically.

I agree. New Orleans is like the culture capital of Louisiana. It pretty much represents it. I've personally never been there and I can still say if they don't rebuild it, they're ******* up. If they don't show these idiots that are trying to take over who's boss, what will happen next? You can't just leave the place in complete Anarchy..That would be ******* stupid. Also, you can't leave a place that important to just rot away under the water.

I don't see where I said no it should not be rebuilt or yes it should. I simply wanted to know valid reasons on why or why not. I've heard people saying that it shouldn't because there is really no point, it's still going to be under sea level and the same could happen again. It will be more expensive to fix it than to build another city somewhere else and then I hear that it is historic and important, where are all these people going to live and all of that.

I think it should be rebuilt but I want to know why people say it shouldn't and what options and solutions they come up with besides "**** them ******s!".

I have never been to N.O. and I guess Ill never get to experience the whole N.O. experience even after it is rebuilt.

I got to thinking about this today and thought this: New Orleans was pretty much meant to be flooded eventually. It's below sea level. Odds are if they rebuild, eventually something like this will happen again and they will go about rebuilding yet again. They've known for a long time that this could and probably would happen one day. I don't understand why they don't just leave it where it is. Not only will the construction costs be too high to imagine, but they will obviously have to drain it. Now, if they drain it back into the lake they will have to find a way to purify it first with all the dead bodies and chemicals floating around. This, alone, will cost more money than it's worth. They can't just dump the water back into the lake and start rebuilding. There are so many more things to look at than people are looking at now. People cannot honestly believe that they can just pump it out and start building..That's retarded.

Ahhhhhhhhhh New Orleans! It MUST be rebuilt!

Oh what a city! The French Quarter..is simply unparalleled! On one of my cross country moves I stopped there..and stayed for several days - I just couldn't carry on until I'd quaffed the cup of New Orleans! I had such a wonderful time - I've so wanted to return and bring family and friends.

I bought an exquisite cat lamp and a voodoo kit for my then 16 year old daughter..gifts for other family and friends..hung out at the boneyards (bit of a thing for boneyards) http://community.webshots.com/photo/441367338/444578153sSOJHW

sat crosslegged on an old wooden floor listening to incredible jazz..and..had a wonderful time...

They must rebuild it - for the many who lived and loved there- for the tourists past and to come! I need it rebuilt so I can go back!!!!!

(sigh) No....(hangs head)... sadly, I was an uneducated tourist, merely stopping by looking for place to land for the night ...and stumbling upon this jewel. I had no real knowledge of NO or it's history. But oh - did I fall in love quickly! It's one place of which I've repeatedly said "you GOTTA go there with me!" ...

The flea markets..were they the markets along the water? Along there I bought a wonderful carved wooden mask for a collector friend ...enjoyed cuppa joe near a square....almost got my palm read on a lark..took photos of Bourbon Street cross roads..and wondered about the mess from the Mardi Gras that I'd just missed by a day!
