I have a Dell GX620. New hard drive, New install of XP Pro (which I'm using here to post this).
Purchased Win7 Pro upgrade.
Run Win7 upgrade advisior:
No Aero support, Custome install required, 3 System requirements passed, 7 devices compatible (broadcom Netxtreme GB controller & 6 USB controller)
Setup:
-Copies Temp files
-accept license
-Custome, select disk 0 partition 1 (c
298GB, 291GB free
Installing Windows
-Copies files (5mins)
-Expands files (2 mins)
Reboots and hangs at 'Starting Windows' screen. No disk activity.
Tried starting in Safe mode with cmd - loads divers and hangs after disk.sys
I have been through numerous effort and time - resetting virtually all the bios settings (Proc HT on/off, disable floppy, vary proc modes etc etc) - no difference, still hangs.
Used the memory checker - no problem shown here.
To be honest I'm furious and feel like I have stepped back to the 90's and win95.
Windows 7 is supposed to be an upgrade! I do not have access to ps2 mice/keyboards or an alternate DVD - just a PC that works fine with XP!!!
Ideas?
