Someone Who Should Be Fired

Sometimes we do things that are so stupid, bad, ignorant that losing your job should be a no brainer.

Here's one of those situations...

OK well my first impression is to fire him immediately. But he has how many commendations during a 20 year service? I can't believe being on the force for that long, this would be the first time he heard foul language. Makes me really want to watch my words in an emergency but I degrees.

I wonder why he's answering 911 when he's a 20 year vet on the force? Maybe it's time for retirement? The old mind is slipping but you still gotta give him a job? Maybe something wasn't reported. He's either losing it or the county failed.

He got those commendations and a clean bill of health because the county failed and has let this mindset that "I'm better than you and you will respect me or you won't get my service and I just might drop kick you!" He should be fired and then his supervisor.

Then maybe a lot of training for any other co-officers.

I'm not sure what "county" you're referring to, because I'm pretty sure this was a Police Department, but I digress.

I must disagree with you. I don't care what the record, what the persons commendations are or what his rank was, what's going on in your head, private life, issues at work, etc... This kind of negligence that could cost a life, should be grounds for termination.

It's obvious from his radio traffic that he consciously tried to minimize his handling of the situation and tried to put the blame on the girl.

That shows conscious acts of guilt.

He may have known he screwed up, but it doesn't make it, OK. Someones life was in danger because of his attitude.

I'm saying this from a position of being the one who has often had to make these choices, and this isn't acceptable.

Well we both agree he was negligent and could've cost a life there for should be termination but the Chief stuck up for him. To me this is a sign of bad management and training. We hire these people. If they up (good thing I'm not using 911) we need to correct this. We need to see what type of mentality has existed and exists in this precinct. I would think it prudent to look back and see how others were treated from that station from other 911 operators.

Detroit... again. This kind of thing is becoming more and more frequent in most of Wayne County.

Not long ago there was another 911 operator who took it upon herself to decide that a young child who called while his mother lay struggling to breathe was playing with the phone and refused to send help. She ended up dying and the operator faced charges, but I think that was up in the Flint area.

I can't believe he got all testy over been sworn at (and really... she wasn't swearing at him. She was frustrated they were talking so long to answer and was swearing to herself when he finaly did pick up) and returned the favor by swearing back at her with a personal "attack". Well, yeah... I can beleive it, because it's the stereotypical arrogance that you see from so many in law enforcement in Detroit and surrounding areas.

I am happy to see, however, that the race card can't be played in this case.

I was fired from a **** "I just need a paycheck" job, back in 1994, for swearing out a customer over the phone.

If I were in charge, I'd throw this sonuvabitch out on his ***!

Heard this on the radio yesterday. I also think this touchy, sensitive ******* should have DEFINITELY been fired. I'm no 911 operator, but anyone with any common sense knows that there are going to be people that will be agitated, stressed, etc. with whatever is going on if they have to call 911.

So she swore, big deal. Like Merc said she wasn't even swearing at him, but venting at the very stressful situation, totally understandable. Who the **** does he think he is? That people need to earn the privilege for him to dispatch help to them? Just do your ing job.

This isn't exactly the field where every call is going to be civilized, prim & proper. You're going to hear horrible sometimes. You have the possibility of witnessing a murder, violence, death, whatever over the phone in this line of job. No time or the profession to be touchy or take things personally.
