South Carolina Senate expected to vote to remove Confederate flag

(Reuters) - South Carolina's Senate is poised to pass legislation Tuesday to remove the Confederate battle flag from the state house, where it has flown for five decades despite being viewed by many as a symbol of slavery. A bill to banish the flag from the Capitol grounds to a museum is headed on Tuesday for a third and final vote in the Senate, which it is considered virtually certain to pass. Then it will be taken up by the House of Representatives and could become law as early as Thursday.
