I wonder how these stats compare to the Microsoft Answers web forum.

This page seems to show a high proportion of questions going unanswered or

am I reading it all wrong.

About the only ones that can be compared is 'Update' & 'Hardware'.

But the date system where an answer bumps the thread does not help.

Totally OT but a thread in MS Answers forum is not marked as ANSWERED unless

the OP or a Moderator marks a reply to the thread as the ANSWER to the

problem.

For example, Windows Update forum (which is NOT an OS-specific forum despite

what you see at the top of the page or in the forum URL) currently shows

1675 "Unanswered" threads and 12,059 "Answered" threads:

http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistawu/threads

A casual review of the first 4-5 forum pages will show quite a number of

threads where the OP was never heard from again (which one has also seen in

this newsgroup over the years).

Then you have OPs posting without bothering to review previous threads about

the same problem, most of which have been Answered.

Compare the above to the (mostly clueless & therefore pretty much ignored)

posts where there have been no replies (i.e., 50 out of nearly 14,000

threads since late October 2009):

http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistawu/threads?filter=noreplies

Stupid is as stupid does.

Thank you for the explanation - I did go into some of the links and noticed

that there were other posts within - but did this after I posted.

Most confusing then, but better understood now.

Each day it is getting quieter and quieter in the ngs. But as long as I can

see you and the other MVP regulars I doubt I will mind using the forum.

Nice to see a few completely new ones as well. Good to see a younger

generation :)
