Sunset Rubdown - Random Spirit Lover

Just leaked recently and is one of my anticipated albums of 2007. And it by and far lives up to my expectations. Some of the songs I got to hear when I stood one foot away from them on their last tour. And I was ecstatic at what I heard. Some of the stuff like "Trumpet, Trumpet, Toot! Toot!" and "Colt Stands Up, Grows Horns" could actually freak out some psychotic folks and metalheads alike. The later song really is out there, but captivates in a weird way. Don't play it around young kids, unless you really want to mess them up.

Compared to the new Frog Eyes "Tears Of The Valedictorian" from this year, of which I love, I'm going to have to favor this new Sunset Rubdown. Spencer Krug contributes marvelously to the manic sound of Frog Eyes, but he obviously holds his own with his project Sunset Rubdown. How will the catchier and less manic Wolf Parade, for which Krug also is the lead singer, compare when it leaks? I doubt it will top this.

Random Spirit Lover tracklist:

01 The Mending of the Gown

02 Magic vs. Midas

03 Up on Your Leopard, Upon the End of Your Feral Days

04 The Courtesan Has Sung

05 Winged/Wicked Things

06 Colt Stands Up, Grows Horns

07 Stallion

08 For the Pier (and Dead Shimmering)

09 The Taming of the Hands That Came Back to Life

10 Setting vs. Rising

11 Trumpet, Trumpet, Toot! Toot!

12 Child-Heart Losers

Yea, it's an accordian. And yes........if you are "open" to something different, go for it.

Funny someone mentioned them today and didnt have a clue who they were. I love Wolf Parade (im a modest mouse fan so this kind of a no brainer) whats their sound like.. im sure I will download it regardless sounds awesome + more diverse instruments is always a good thing.

PS - I REALLLLY Like the the new Go! Team.... though apparently its a transcode *shrugs*

Indie rock. Very cathartic, visceral, and insane-like. Not as insane as Frog Eyes, but Krug is getting closer on this second full length album of his. Perhaps, a touch of renaissance.

So its sort of a happy middle between Wolf Parade, maybe a tad predictable and stale and Frog Eyes.... maybe a tad too insane.

SOUNDS GOOD!

Try it out..........

Wolf Parade is great too. I just prefer Frog Eyes and Sunset Rubdown. Not so much Swan Lake.

I looked at your profile 'Yellowcard & Coldplay'

if they are more luney then Wolf Parade they are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay different then them 2 bands who play it on the safe side.

-Toxic

I will try it out tommorow deffinatly, I need to lick my lips to some tastey new music after a list of artists terribly dissapointed me this month.

- Gogol Bordello

- Interpol

- Lethal Bizzle

- Dizze Rascal

However having said that

- Go! Team

- Eugene McGuinness

- Sunny Day In Glasgow (yes already another release)

- Spoon

These all made me :D

Currently undecided over goodbooks, another ****** brit pop indie band or genuingly interesting pop indie band.... hmph. My opinion of Jetplane Landings new effort 'Backlash Cop' keeps on wavering too.

So yah =D I will download it tommorow

Try out the new Fiery Furnaces "Widow City". It's ******* amazing. Spastic and all over the place, just how I like the Furnaces. And lots of killer guitar and hooks from Matt Friedberger. And of course Eleanor Friedberger's sexy possessed voice and their crazy stories. Will be in my top 10 or 15 of 2007 for sure. Catchy as ****.........

I can tell i'm going to LOVE this album, a rare thing happend in that it was growing on me during the first listen. The first few tracks I just couldn't take it in, it was making my head spin by how complex it was and I knew it was going to be hard work and although the later tracks arent much easier to get into the further the album progressed the more I enjoyed it.... this is a great thing it means its got a constant mood and theme which means not only is this likely to be a great album this is going to be a great album it will be a great album I LOVE which happens to a select few......

PS the end of Grows Horns was reallly reallly reallly freaky.... it felt like I was on an incredibly powerful drug & I liked that, the drumming was INSANE! Tracks very rarley make give me feelings that strong, to the point I actually started feeling paranoid.

The Taming OF The Hands That Came Back To Life on the other hand was incredibly good and potential single its incredibly dancey or jumpy if you will... this will probably be the track that hooks people to their sound if they arent used to such heavy & disorientated melodies.

Trumpet, Trumpet, Toot! Toot! is an incredible track and I challenge anyone not to admire the track if not enjoy it.

Hehehe brilliant =) my bad

If you like some alternative pop or psycadelic pop you should enjoy it. It's really an amazingly consistent piece of work (on my 2nd listen) and enjoying it even more, it doesnt seem to drag the set on the album is very tight and well done and it certainly doesnt feel like an hours worth of material.

hmm i listen'd to the 3 tracks and The Taming of the Hands That Came Back To Life was pretty good, ill say its nice track , Winged/Wicked Things was very much the same i liked it after a few listens but Trumpet, Trumpet, Toot! Toot! IMO is a joke i mean it sounds like 30 bands making music together, a sound mess. thats my opinion. pretty good music

Yes indeed, one of the most brilliant tracks of 2007. An amazingly frightening song. I even said before that this could easily freak out psychotic folks and metalheads alike. It's an amazingly well thought and composed piece of music. Kicked my *** when I experienced it live a few months ago. And you haven't even heard "Colt Stands Up, Grows Horns". Haha..........
