Newborn Twins Found Alive With Dead Mother

OLATHE, Kan. -- Authorities found two newborns with their dead mother in an
Olathe apartment on Friday.
The mother had apparently been dead for some time, and the 24-day-old
twins -- a boy and a girl -- were dehydrated and malnourished, according to
a spokesman for Johnson County Med-Act.
The newborns were under the mother's bed. One could barely cry. The other
one didn't make any sounds.
Medics rushed the newborns to a hospital, where they were both in critical
condition.
Authorities went to the apartment near West Poplar and North Walnut streets
because they received a report about an odor.
A neighbor said she had seen the woman about a month ago and she was
pregnant.
She said she saw the woman again about a week ago and the woman was no
longer pregnant.
Police were investigating, trying to determine if foul play was involved in
her death.
