The rule of law in America was only written for Democrats and
Independents, Republicans like Bush don't have to obey the law like
every one else.

Bush Claims Privilege to Block Testimony From Former Aides

President Bush has claimed executive privilege to prevent two former
senior aides from testifying before Congress on the firings of nine
U.S. attorneys last year.

In a letter today to the chairmen of the House and Senate Judiciary
committees, White House counsel Fred F. Fielding said "as we remain at
the present impasse, the president feels compelled to assert executive
privilege" to block former White House counsel Harriet Miers and
former political aide Sara M. Taylor from testifying.

On June 13, both committees subpoenaed the White House directly for
records related to the firings. The House panel subpoenaed Miers to
appear before a subcommittee July 12. The Senate Judiciary Committee
subpoenaed Taylor to appear July 11.

In a June 28 letter to Senate Judiciary Chairman Patrick J. Leahy, D-
Vt., and House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers Jr., D-Mich., Fielding
said Bush had asserted executive privilege over White House records
related to the firings, and was prepared to assert the privilege to
prevent Miers and Taylor from testifying.

Leahy and Conyers responded with a June 29 letter asking Fielding to
either hand over the records or provide details about each document
withheld and the "specific legal basis" for asserting executive
privilege.

The two chairmen set a deadline of today "before we move to
proceedings to rule on your claims and consider whether the White
House is in contempt of Congress."
