PHOENIX -- A 13-year-old boy was critically wounded after his 12-year-old
brother stabbed him with a kitchen knife during an argument over what to
watch on TV, Phoenix police said.
The fight came to a climax when the younger brother went into the kitchen
and grabbed a knife with a five-inch blade, officers said.
The boy went back into the living room and stabbed his older brother once in
the stomach, police said.
Neighbors in the 3700 block of West Pleasant Lane where the brothers live
said they couldn't believe the scene.
"We picked up our kids from school and when we came back home we saw lots of
police cars around," said Shafiq Shaikh.
"It's terrible. We don't like this kind of thing," Shaikh said.
Police said the boys' father was at home but in a different room at the time
of the stabbing.
Rescue personnel treated the 13-year-old on scene and then rushed him to a
local hospital where he received emergency surgery.
The 12-year-old is in police custody.
Officers said they are still investigating the incident.
