HOUSTON -- Amber Sheldon, a 20-year-old honors graduate from Kashmere High,
was gunned down in front of her 1-year-old son, Harris County detectives
said on Monday.
Sheldon's estranged boyfriend of four years, Marcus Holliman, 21, was
charged with murder and held under a $100,000 bond.
Sheldon's mother told Local 2 that her daughter was physically abused by
Holliman in the past and the couple recently separated.
Investigators said Holliman showed up at Sheldon's apartment Saturday around
9 p.m. and demanded she go with him.
When she refused, witnesses said Holliman rammed his car into Sheldon's
vehicle, shot her, then placed her body in his car, and drove away.
Police said it happened with the couple's 1-year-old son in his father's
car.
Detectives said Holliman drove to his mother's house and threatened to
commit suicide.
Sandra Holliman said she convinced her son to put the gun down and he was
taken into custody.
Sheldon's mother said her daughter recently pursued a restraining order
against Holliman, but refused her family's advice to seek refuge anonymously
in a battered women's shelter.
She said, "I hope my pain can help someone else. If (an abuser) treats you
wrong, please run away and get help. I don't want anyone else to end up like
my daughter has."
