The New WPYO

Back on topic. The update is being postponed for a bit. I have another project that I have to have complete. It encompasses converting from php/mysql to asp.net/mssql and then turning it over to the graphics designer to put a nice gui in front of it. Once that is done I'll focus my time to get this place updated to web 2.0 standards with a bunch of new features.
Sounds good.

OK So anyways, now that the new board is up and running. I want to discuss how I and Bob had agreed the board should move forward..

GF into the future, should be looked at, as not only a community clique forum, but an "EXCLUSIVE CONTENT" forum.

The best of Blogging, BBS boards, chat rooms, instant messages, MY SPACE type member pages, and Youtube media all wrapped up into a package for EXCLUSIVE members only. Ran by the exclusive members.

Free to look and comment by anybody in the world, yet membership has it's privileges.

The initial plan is to hand over limited MOD powers to Premium members, and yet have these same options available for non subscribers.

I'm not sure how Bob planned to approach it, but I have thought it over a bit and came up with the following :

Super Moderators group (Myself, Tori, R.O., etc... ) can edit posts, polls, signatures, name headings, avatars, move posts, etc... etc...

PAID GROUPS

  • [ ]Moderators group (Can BAN and IDIOT BOX only, 24 hour time limit)
[ ]Moderators group 2(Can Idiot box 24 hour time limit)
[ ]Moderators group 3 (Can edit avatars and signatures 24 hrs)
Prices set accordingly, along with the option of buying JUST an avatar and not a premium membership.

This still lets everyday joes have fun Phucking with people on the cheap for the day by buying MOD powers and idiot boxing members at random :D

Premiums can't be boxed however, unless by a fellow premium.

Change the person who has MOD privlages color to something like LIGHT GREEN or something like that, so fellow members know whos in control of the game.

Should be lots of fun... but more important, allow us to have a tighter community so that we can one day.. simply close the good stuff out from the world with tons of buying members, and none of the trolls.

The only rules are the bullshit ones we create ourselves.

Well then, I guess I should give an ADVANCED WARNING to members to make backups of their avatars and signatures and profile pics and such. :D

Bob is currently in the process of coding some new features for GF that I think alot of you will enjoy.

Premium members will be able to create their own pages and add content like you can at myspace.

There is also a blog system, friends network, and private messaging independent of vbulletin's.

It is something that we had discussed over a year ago to take GF into the next phase of BBS Forums, and to set the standard for the next generation of blogging.

He has been coding alot of it in his spare time and will also be intergrating some available hacks to make the system work.

Other wickedly fun options will be available to Premiums but I'm not going to get into any specifics at this time until Bob has put up the Beta for me to play around with and test out.

One of the things that we do need are icons for the form categories and a new logo.

The plan is to take us back to the oldstyle layout that some of you older members are familiar with.

An example of old style GF can be found on http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/index.php

We will be breaking down forums in the following manor:

MEMBER FEEDBACK

  • [ ]FEEDBACK FORUM
    [ ]MEMBERS LOUNGE
RANTS AND RAVES>RENAMED "THE ISSUES"

  • [ ]WHAT ****** YOU OFF ?
[ ]POLLS AND DEBATES (Let's us mix em up a little and create polls from debates easier)
    [ ]NEWS
    [ ]REVIEWS
[ ]RANTS, RAVES AND OTHER BULLSHIT (replace speak your mind, good place to throw alot of Lethalfind's posts
[ ]THE **** POT > SUB CATEGORYS: NEWS ARCHIVE & SPAM
I will be working on the logo myself, if anybody would like to volenteer to do the icons, that would be cool, just let us know.

I will give a free Premium membership to anybody who isn't a Premium who helps create the new icons... or if you ARE a Premium, and you help create them, I'll ... uhh, I better not say until the revamp is done. ;)

Personally, I have been looking forward to the revamp for quite some time.

I won't give an exact date, but hopefully the new GF will be done before X-mas.

I'll pay $50 a year if Bob can come up with a virtual ***** slap that will either make the intended's *** jump out of their chair or their computer shut down for 10-15 minutes.

:)

If you want to give me some parameters (approx size, colors to keep in mind, style) to keep in line with your logo... Ill give a few a shot. If they suck I wont cry and splain why they are good.

I'd like to see a ranking format used in the debate forum. Similar to the rep system we currently have (which is pointless as it is now due to the cap glitch).

To encourage more spirited debates as opposed to chat room fodder derailment taking place in every forum.

Maybe a point system in each debate thread that other users can vote for whomever they feel is 'winning' a debate. Whatever points are accumulated are added to a total and displayed for all to view.

You have your instructions, now DO IT!

I think that is a great idea.

A point system, like an actual debate... so that people can keep an active tally of the consensus of victory. To watch people cry as they lose, and explain that everyone is stupid but them. I want this feature. I don't know quite how you would avoid cheating the system... perhaps only paid memberships get voting priveledges, and only 2 per day (in case an argument sways decisions)...

I dont know, but its a smashing idea.

The voting is always partisan.

I would vote for who ever appears to be winning the debate based on their knowledge of the topic, willingness to do research, and their debating skills (Taking the **** out of someone is funny as ****.. but it isn't a debating skiill and while it sometimes makes me ROTFL... it wouldn't get points.)

In the event of a tie between you guys... the one with the largest **** would win.

Too often does the decision of who is winning come down to the reader’s bias towards one view point or another. There have been many debates here where both people will debate on and on, all the while claiming that there is nothing left to refute and no new information that needs to be brought it

"I've already proven that you are wrong; I win" is usually followed with a like response. Both are as assured in their convictions as their readers. Plus, no matter what happy intentions held by the best of us to be unbiased and judge on merit, the obvious dispositions which exist among our members will forever collapse into their regular trends on 80% of subjects. EG: I'd always end up supporting Hamza and another few would always be supporting MRIH in their ever lasting argument.

After the excitement of potential improvement, the ambition fades and the same trends always re-emerge.

Some folks are just too stubborn. I will rep someone even while I'm in the middle of a debate with them, as long as they make a good argument to their point of view. A good debater can drum up very strong argument on either side of the debate.

Getting back on track a bit, and getting back on topic.

I think with the NEW FREE AOL it leaves forums and such like GF in a MUCH better position, and I think I can explain a little bit more about PREMIUM services.

$12 is just a **** buy in to the GF community to add a couple extra permissions to your user group, nothing more.

I think by allowing people to participate for free on any given forum is great.

Premium memberships allow web site owners to design content around certain member levels.

The Internet HAS evolved. You'll notice Time magazine named basically the whole Internet community as person of the year... while I think it is a total crock of ****, I do think that as the Internet grows. More cluster communities will form. On one hand, you have sites like MY SPACE who bring content to web users based on other members page expressions..

Then, you have YOUTUBE and FLURL providing media content submitted by people all over the world.

AOL basically turned into nothing but a spam fest content provider.

I think it caved in under it's own ****.

I think the best way to control an online community is to control who gets into the club and who doesn't.

I disagree with assigning the task of sorting out who stays and who goes, and call these people MODERATORS. Or as AOL liked to call them "GUIDES".

I strongly believe in power to the people. It all sorts itself out in the end.

It is my belief that the NEW GF will evolve into a content portal created by ONLY Premium members, but available free of charge for the rest of the world to participate in.

Basically combining the member personality profile, with their media uploads, and forum commentary, and in addition, be able to speak with that person in live chat, or instant messages.

If you think about it. The reason regular members don't get to use the pager system like everyone else, is because it would be too easy to write a script that will spam a message to members.

By only giving this ability to premium and legacy members, it prevents members from seeing **** like pop up bot ads, or messages from people they don't know.

A Premium membership is paid for legitimately, so if anything, you ARE more secure in the community, because if anything, if you ARE being threatened personally in any way, you will have at your disposal the identity of the person threatening you.

So your "HATEFUL" premium comrades still are forced to be your friend in the end.

You can't get that with a standard membership because it's too easy to create multiple accounts, or use proxies.

Eventually, WHEN the Premium group grows to a considerable size, you start giving MORE exclusive content and access, or even possibly restructure forum category or views permissions.

Questions ??

Or, maybe GF will become like AIM and cave under its own ****. **** being Mods that don't moderate.

Oh, I'm being combative and bringing up a subject that Phreak will ***** at me about. He'll be like "OMG no, you guys complain." Show me one spot where an intelligent person complained. Someone with some sort of standing. No, you won't because you don't care.
