The oil question

I know its been discussed elsewhere, so why not discuss it here..

The previous owner always ran Rotella Im guess the white bottle.. But Id like to run something else maybe Amsoil, Royal Purple ext...My neighbor swears by Honda products.. For the price, I can probably get something better..

 

What oil for the engine and what oil for the tranny..

I am a huge fan of Motul oil. No argument, it makes HP and comes out cleaner them any other oil I have ever uses. NEVER black! It goes in lime green, comes out lime green.

 

I hate Amsoil so much and their MLM marketing scheme I should ban the word. They lie, cheat and deceit their customers.

 

A lot of people love Rotella

rotella. both sides. cheap. effective. not the friendliest on a dyno but i can go to walmart on a sunday and get some if i need too...

I use rotella, well because of its popularity and its cost, but as much as I ride...which is probably less than most of you, i would not be opposed to using something better, any suggestions and why?

Honda blood in the trans and Honda synthetic in the motor. I have a friends @ honda so i dont pay the jacked up costs for it. If I didnt get the discount id run rotella both sides. Even the rep from Rekluse recommends rotella.

does rotella rob power or something? i saw somebody said it's not dyno friendly and HQ is claiming to get performance gains from his Motul......is there something i'm missing? my oil is slower than your oil?

It is possible .. Even different weights will show different on a dyno. Will we ever feel it on the butt dyno no, but for someone looking to squeeze every last bit of hp Yes. Using a oil like motul will help.

how much dyno HP difference are we talking?

I would be lieing if I told you a # but i would say 1 or less. Its kinda a drag racing thing when ya running for time. Every little thing adds up

Motul and Motul trans. expensive and I change it after every trip

I use 300v in my motor and transoil expert in my tranny. I saw .73 HP on my 05 build. I was talking to a builder who saw over 1.5HP on a YFZ build the other day.

 

I'm going to do an oil comparison on the dyno with bone stock, and lightly.modded bikes with filter changes between each run

please don't. i stupid enough to go back to expensive oil for a hp... :thinker:

i can get that Amsoil for 12 a quart at the local Do It Best store, but i usually get the Rotella for $3 a quart....i don't know why? :thinker:

 

honestly, i run rotella because it's what everybody on the interwebz does and it is also cheap, and i like the way it looks coming out.....sounds nasty......

Marketed like a scam

Same here. A friend of mine used Honda oil in his LTR before he sold it. Anybody using Bel-Ray? Heard good things about it but never used it.

I've used all the Honda Oil you can. I now run Motul 5100 Technosynthesis 10W40 on the engine side and Motul Transoil Expert 10W40 on the Trans Side. As mentioned above, it goes in green and comes out green. Honda oil goes in brownish comes out black with bits and pieces in it. The HUGE noticeable difference is on the trans side. I can get Motul for $7/Litre here. It retails at $13/Litre.

 

If you find that Rotella works for you that's fine. I'm not gonna bash on that. However, I switched from Rotella to Quakerstate in my car and there was a noticeable difference upon pulling the drain plug. Yeah you pay more, but I'd rather have my engine last longer and run better. If I can find a product that does that for me I'll use it.

 

I've never ran Amsoil, solely based on the fact that I read ONE magazine ad and said to myself "sounds like a sales scam."

 

And to touch on the Lucas and other Additives, after working in Automotive for a brief period and the shit I heard, I don't think I'll ever use an oil additive or a Lucas product again. Mind you, if I had worn out rings and was about to sell a vehicle and I didn't like the stupid look on your face.. Lucas 80W90 down the intake it is! Hahaha.

quakerstate is more expensive than rotella? i thought quaker state was about as cheap as it gets. what was the noticeable difference? the oil was less broke down when you used quaker state? are you comparing synthetic to non synthetic or what? i've yet to find an oil that looks as good as rotella does when it's coming out for a change.

The only time I've ever used quakerstate was for a 400mi engine break-in but never in my trx.
