EMI will allow its artists, who include Coldplay and Kylie Minogue, to be sponsored by corporate companies, according to reports.

The proposals, which could see Coldplay’s new album ‘
Prospekt’ released with corporate branding, are expected to feature as part of an extensive shake-up of the company.

Terra Firma, EMI’s new owners, believe the plans would help increase the label’s revenue as it struggles to meet the growth of the digital marketplace.

Earlier Today, Guys Hands, the private equity firms boss, confirmed that up to 2,000 staff would lose their jobs at the record label.

The job cuts, which will focus mainly on the recorded artist division, are the equivalent to nearly one third of
EMI’s entire workforce.

Terra Firma took over EMI last August in a deal worth £3.2 billion.

Its because EMI are dumb and gave Robbie Williams a £80million contract & most of his copies of 'Rudebox' are beign recycled. Get the picture

EMI as with many majors buy into one hit wonders and has-beens & offer way to much, Majors are making a massive loss whilst indies thrive on the recent boom of Vinyls & actually benefit off of leaks as generally speaking it helps them advertise. With majors it hurts them

YOU KNOW NOTHING OF MUSIC, THEY ARENT ON EMI!

its not like bands dont advertise things in general...or sell merch that isnt related to their own...people will do alot of things to make money, fact of life

darkness, honestly, grow up, you support a band whos very own label milks cash at ANY oppurtunity and who makes mainstream music and yet you bag out other mainstream bands/acts who do exactly the same thing? kinda hypocritical isnt it?

After MTM I can hardly listen to Mainstream now. If I look at my favorites on Winamp none of the bands are played on the radio, nor do my friends know much about them. i find Mainstream is simply formulated to make money, and if you listen to it your "cool", and with **** like Soulja Boy coming out, i step back further from mainstream music everyday.

well i agree to a degree (lol)

i mean MTM was a little mainstream but put it this way... walk to any normal kid who downloads the top 40s every week and ask him about ANY song on MTM other than the 3 singles and he wont know ****... there are degrees in mainstream and **** like UK top 40 (most of it) are songs i hate...

but i guess some songs on the charts are funky for a few listens then i delete it. funny enough since stenners posted songs ive also started listening to music thats mostly unknown.

But the way i see it, there is nothing wrong to support a band even if its mainstream as long as you arnt one of those people who just listens to the singles and the rest of the album is **** to them cause it not as popular as the singles... my opinion anyway (and i know you disagree stenners XD)

it's a pretty simple fact: mainstream is in the big money making machine, and when it's all about money, music is handed the 2nd place.

and now, it's not a code of law carved into stone, but Ive found that once you go out of the mainstream, into the more obscure bands where its all about the art, the expression, the music, the music tends to get better and more varied and more intricate

I have never really found any music I actually liked out of mainstream. I don't like emo or hardcore **** so not that kind of mainstream lol, but I guess I don't know where to look and am to lazy. Anyone have any suggestions (besides Stenners because I know most music he listens to I probably won't like...)

Also for some reason, not related to this at all, I am really starting like early 90's grunge lol >.>

yeah except he means good, he's not selling something to make money

I don't always agree with him and toxic, but essentially what they're trying to do is to get people to wake up and realize that there is so much other music and so much better music out there, just if you look for it
