This Should Be Legal Nationwide. IMO

But should be up to each state to enact the law to allow it...

Washington state to allow `dignity' deaths
By RACHEL LA CORTE, Associated Press Writer Rachel La Corte, Associated Press Writer ? 1 hr 50 mins ago

OLYMPIA, Wash. ? Terminally ill patients with less than six months to live will soon be able to ask their doctors to prescribe them lethal medication in Washington state.

But even though the "Death with Dignity" law takes effect Thursday, people who might seek the life-ending prescriptions could find their doctors conflicted or not willing to write them.

Many doctors are hesitant to talk publicly about where they stand on the issue, said Dr. Tom Preston, a retired cardiologist and board member of Compassion & Choices, the group that campaigned for and supports the law.

I agree whole heartedly about the right to die with dignity. The only foreseeable problem is people taking their own life's by coercion or guilt from the burden they lay on the family. Its a fine line but we need to respect our elders right to life and death.

As a last resort absolutely. I've been around to to see a loved one lose their hair, their weight, be unable to eat, cry when they are moved and have bones break, mouth sores and eventually a complete loss of dignity, before finally starving themselves. Animals have the right to die humanely...I think we should to.

Doctors are there when they do lethal injections.
I'm just saying that it must be a real conflict of conscience for a lot of doctors, knowing they can't do any more for their patient.
I'm sure there would be a lot of doctors who would specialize in the field, though.

I agree. I think that both this and performing abortions should be something a doctor can decline to do if it's against their morals or beliefs.

I agree with everything that has been said so far. Even animals are given this mercy when there is nothing else that can be done and their pain is too great.

I say we should even go one step further and build suicide booths like they have on Futurama with a variety of demise options.

Good thinking. People are essentially just like animals. We can then use the dead to feed the poor.

I agree. I have seen some terribly long agonizing deaths as well. I think people who are interesed in this process should put it in writing while they are healthy though; therefore proving state of mind.

Yes! I completely agree.

I've always said that the day I am found sitting in my own waste, choking on my own drool and willingly watching Lifetime television is the day that someone needs to take me out into the field and shoot me.

But a suicide booth sounds good, too!

In a suicide booth...I'd choose a beheading....it would be wicked messy to clean up, i think my eyes would be open which would be disconcerting to the cleaner, and also....people would say "****...she chose a beheading...that's hard core"........

They say you still have brain capacity for a few moments after your head is removed and can still "see". That's crizazy!

You should also try to make your head smile. A decapited head with its eyes open and smiling? ****!
