Louisville, KENTUCKY (AP) -- A mother killed her two children Thursday

and then went to the nearby college she attended and brandished a gun

before handing the weapon to a health counselor, police said.

The threat at the University of Louisville ended with no injuries

about half an hour after it began, but police who were then asked by

school officials to check on the children found them dead with gunshot

wounds.

Gail Lynn Coontz, 37, is charged with killing 14-year-old Greg Coontz

and 10-year-old Nikki Coontz, said Louisville police Officer Phil

Russell.

Gail Coontz was the armed student, said police Lt. Barry Wilkerson.

She is in custody at the University of Louisville hospital but is

expected to be transferred to jail, Russell said.

The woman was also charged with one count of terroristic threatening

for pointing a handgun at an officer, said university police Maj.

Kenny Brown. The woman gave her handgun to a counselor at the health

services building, he said.

CNN

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia (AP) -- Gunfire struck several vehicles

along an 11-mile stretch of Interstate 64 early Thursday, injuring two

people and forcing police to shut down a portion of the road for

nearly six hours.

Col. Steven Flaherty of the Virginia State Police briefs reporters

Thursday in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The highway reopened around dawn, but Col. Steven Flaherty told

reporters at a news conference that the shooter or shooters could

still be in the area. Investigators were looking for suspects, but did

not tell motorists to avoid the interstate.

"We're certainly going to put additional resources out," Flaherty

said.

The shootings began around midnight, when police received an emergency

call reporting gunfire. Authorities shut down a 20-mile stretch

between Charlottesville and Waynesboro as they investigated the

shootings, which were reported at an on-ramp at the 114 mile marker at

Ivy and an overpass in the Afton area.

Two cars, a van and a tractor-trailer -- all traveling westbound --

were struck by bullets, Flaherty said. An unoccupied, parked Virginia

Department of Transportation vehicle also was shot. Authorities said

they are trying to determine exact details.

Police think the bullets were all of the same caliber but they could

not be sure until forensic tests are completed. Flaherty could not say

what type of gun was used.

The two injured motorists were treated at hospitals and released.

Flaherty said he did not know if the victims were struck by bullets or

shattered glass.

Gee ... one day, three "Kill 'em All" stories. Just the latest

in a LONG and ESCALATING series of attacks and mass killings

that stretch back at least as far as Tim McVey and the Columbine

trenchcoat twits.

This seems to be becoming the NORMAL way to deal with stressful

issues in America. Each instance provides a blueprint of a sort

for the next perpetrator ... a "HE did it, so I'LL do it too !"

copycat sort of thing. No more just dealing with problems ...

the 'path of glory' instead - kill as many as you can before

snuffing yourself. You'll be on TV ... over and over, hour

after hour, days, weeks, months - FAMOUS !!!

Alas, some of the latest slaughters have kind of hit the wall

as to what any one individual can easily accomplish with a

gun and a few minutes ... so how will TOMORROWS mass killer

set himself apart, earn even MORE fame, glory and TV time ???

Clearly they'll soon move to things even worse than guns ...

speeding SUVs, fire, poisons, explosives, causing trains/

planes/busses to crash, those sorts of things. You can take

out a lot more people that way - and every death increases

your TV ratings.

It's becoming like a contest already ... who can make the

biggest splatter. Escalation is inevitible.

Can we get the media to tone it down ? Hell no ! They glory

in every slaughter - and profit too. The 1st amendment is

their shield and no silly-talk about 'responsibility' will

make them change their ways. That much is clear. Therefore

the positive feedback for mass killers WILL continue.

Eventually, someday, this weird lethal 'meme' will be replaced

by something new. In the meanwhile though ...

Duck & cover.
