Tired of Metal Being Stereo typed?

I am so fucking tired of people telling me that heavy metal is the Devil's music, music for a lesser breed. People can be so ignorant. Ever since Black Sabbath created metal, there has been so much contreversery. Bands/artists like Ozzy Osbourne, Marylin Manson, Slipknot, Cannibal Corpse, and Slayer have been accused of being the reason why there has been so many murders,and for people commiting suicide. Once they find out that the person listened to metal they jump to the conclusion that metal was the cause of it. Maybe that has been the reason in a FEW cases, but I think people are just trying to make metal sound horrible because it's different. I'm 14 and some people say that metal is evil(Devil music), and that it is evil. They just don't understand. I listened to country the first 12 years of my life. I liked it but i finally realized that alot of it has no meaning. I started listening to rock, preferebly metal, and I finally felt as if people understood how I felt. Metal helps me. All i have to do when i feel bad is listen to a song like Leave Out All The Rest or Numb and I feel better. People think that just because we listen to metal that we hate the world and are rebels and worship the devil. I'm so sick of it!!!

I understand your sentiment, but I hate to say it, people are always going to stereotype you no matter what. It's pre-programmed in our brains, but smart and kind people can override it.

You shouldn't let it bug you so much, and if it does, figure out some ways to prove them wrong.

Tom Araya, the singer of Slayer has said that he's kind of christian actually. and when kerry king who's written a lot of the lyrics writes something, he just goes along with it. cause as he said, you have to be really stupid, for something like a band or a song, to change your whole system of beliefs.

 

and cannibal corpse. I don't really like their music, or their brutal image, but there's artistic freedom. I don't like, and I just keep quiet about it. not gonna go out and protest like a group of stupid moms, lol

Actually music does somewhat trigger emotions that may cause a tipping point that makes or breaks your emotional case. Think about folks. Say your dad's been really hard on you. Really pushing you to be like him and you just feel like dieing. You pluck in your head phones and you start hearing numb tell me...do you say oh wow they feel just like me? Or do you go Oh my God that's just how I feel and then you realize how bad this really sucks and you cry even more and you feel even crappier. Music puts you in a state. People who listen to darker music are generally(GENERALLY) less happy people. It's obvious. It's undisputed. I'm junoir class president and I hang out with a lot of people stereotype wise. "Goth/Metal" kid wise they tend to be less happy. Obviously when we talk and hang they are happy and fun, but when we talk deep they have more issue and they look at them deeper and sometimes more exagerated. Verses say my "Thuggish" lol friends who are generally more happy. Obviously they have similar problems, but they don't let the same things get to them nearly as much as the rockers do. Why? It's simple? Music. Gangsters don't rap about how much life sucks and devils so that's not what they have to think about. And rock song sing about how much bling and hos they have (unless your Korn lol.) obviously in every genre there are exceptions...but for the most part its simple

 

 

Heavy Metal/Goth - leads a darker less happy life

Rap/Hip-Hop - Leads a more carefree but less self intuned life

 

 

like i said theres a middle ground which most people end up falling on as the grow up and mature

you listen to metal and chances are ur gunna feel rebelious, angry, sad, or if the band ur listening to sold out in love.

naw i mean the music gives them the potential but most people mature and get older. and music becomes less of their life. But when your young by constantly listening to metal your more likely to be deperessed, sad, angry, etc. It sets a mood. You can't go against that. There is hard cold evidence that says music affects the way you feel. Movies are the best example of this. If they want to get across a happy feeling then they'll play happy music that every one can relate and enjoy. If they want to have a heart racing chase then they'll play something fast paced and suspenseful with immense climaxes.

 

Now, obviously I'm going to get a few of those people who go "Well gee whiz AzemKamikaze03! I listen to Heavy Death Puke Slit My Wrist Metal and I'm fine!" Well, if you listen to that your not fine and lol I don't buy it. So many people automatically interject with a "Well it hasn't bothered" statement just to fuel their baseless argument, but truth is it probably has. Sometimes it might be subtle. Honestly, half the times I'm pissed I don't notice I'm getting more pissed by relating to this song than I am by not relating. None the less and let me rephrase this...the musical genre's all deserve their stereotypes.

 

If a band doesn't like it, well it's up to them to change their style.

when I was listening the most to LP, I wasn't sad cause I listened to them, I listened to them cause they helped me from the sadness...

there's a lot of kids out there that have shitty lives. they come home, and the only thing stopping them from doing something horrible, is listening to music that helps them vent their feelings. you think kids shot up schools cause they listened to metal? they shot the schools cause the people with them in class were bullying them, bullying others, ignoring them, etc

Like all things in life music is part of our surroundings, it's natural for the human psycie to be affected by surrounding factors (fashion obvious) it's part of survival. Naturally people that tend to watch comedies and stuff tend to be less serious then those who watch dramas music wise it can be similar the is no lie in this.

 

However it is down to other factors as well to consider its not soley music so yes it is a bit of a mis-consception, everything in our lives effects us including music. Luckily for me I listen to a bit of everything so im stable ^_^

If you leave the stage you dont get paid, contract stipulates mininum duration of performance in order to get paid.... true artists go on longer then they are paid for =)
