U.S. Military Deaths in Iraq at 3, 703

As of Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007, at least 3,703 members of the U.S. military
have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an
Associated Press count. The figure includes seven military civilians. At
least 3,036 died as a result of hostile action, according to the military's
numbers.
The AP count is 15 higher than the Defense Department's tally, last updated
Thursday at 10 a.m. EDT.
The British military has reported 168 deaths; Italy, 33; Ukraine, 18;
Poland, 21; Bulgaria, 13; Spain, 11; Denmark, seven; El Salvador, five;
Slovakia, four; Latvia, three; Estonia, Netherlands, Thailand, two each; and
Australia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Romania, South Korea, one death each.
The latest deaths reported by the military:
Two soldiers were killed Wednesday north of Baghdad.
One soldier died Thursday of non-combat causes in Baghdad.
The latest identifications reported by the military:
Army Spc. Alun R. Howells, 20, Parlin, Colo.; died Monday in Baghdad of
wounds from direct fire; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment,
2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga.
Three soldiers died Monday in Qayyarah after their vehicle was struck by an
explosive. All were assigned to the 5th Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery
Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Bliss, Texas.
Killed were Army Staff Sgt. Eric D. Cottrell, 39, Pittsview, Ala.;
Army Pfc. Juan M. Lopez Jr., 23, San Antonio;
Army Pfc. Paulomarko U. Pacificador, 24, Shirley, N.Y.
Five soldiers died Tuesday in Taqaddum when their helicopter crashed. All
were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 52nd Aviation Regiment, Task Force 49,
Fort Wainwright, Alaska.
Killed were:
Army Chief Warrant Officer Christopher C. Johnson, 31, Michigan;
Army Chief Warrant Officer Jackie L. McFarlane Jr., 30, Virginia Beach, Va.;
Army Staff Sgt. Sean P. Fisher, 29, Santee, Calif.;
Army Staff Sgt. Stanley B. Reynolds, 37, Rock, W.Va.;
Army Spc. Steven R. Jewell, 26, Bridgeton, N.C.
