U.S. Military Deaths in Iraq at 3, 807

As of Monday, Oct. 1, 2007, at least 3,807 members of the U.S. military have
died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an
Associated Press count. The figure includes seven military civilians. At
least 3,100 died as a result of hostile action, according to the military's
numbers.

The AP count is seven higher than the Defense Department's tally, last
updated Monday at 10 a.m. EDT.

The British military has reported 170 deaths; Italy, 33; Ukraine, 18;
Poland, 21; Bulgaria, 13; Spain, 11; Denmark, seven; El Salvador, five;
Slovakia, four; Latvia, three; Estonia, Netherlands, Thailand, Romania, two
each; and Australia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, South Korea, one death each.



The latest deaths reported by the military:

A soldier was killed Sunday by small arms fire in eastern Baghdad.

A soldier was killed Monday in a non-combat incident in Qadissiya province.

A soldier was killed Monday during combat in central Baghdad.



The latest identifications reported by the military:

Army Sgt. 1st Class Randy L. Johnson, 34, Washington D.C.; died Thursday in
Baghdad of wounds suffered when an explosive detonated near his vehicle; was
assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, Vilseck,
Germany.

Army Sgt. Robert T. Ayres III, 23, Los Angeles; died Saturday in Baghdad by
small arms fire; was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry
Regiment, Vilseck, Germany.

Army Staff Sgt. Donnie D. Dixon, 37, Miami; died Saturday in Baloor, Iraq,
of wounds suffered from small arms fire; was assigned to Headquarters and
Headquarters Company, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort
Hood, Texas.

Army Sgt. 1st Class James D. Doster, 37, Pine Bluff, Ark.; died Saturday in
Baghdad of wounds suffered from an explosive and small arms fire; was
assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade
Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.
