The United Nations will set up a board of inquiry to investigate the death a week ago of a Spanish peacekeeper during an exchange of fire on the Israeli-Lebanon border, a senior UN official said Wednesday. The UN Security Council on Wednesday condemned "in the strongest terms" the killing of the peacekeeper and said it awaited the results of a fact-finding report by the UN force in south Lebanon, UNIFIL, on the incident. "We are straight away launching a board of inquiry to look into the wider aspects of all of this," said the official, who asked not to be named.
