OTMTRX
Ok so pulled my XR400r out to give it some TLC, it's been sat in my garage for over a year (or 2) with no lov'n.. Pulled off the super heavily oil coated UNI filter (got my brand new can of UNI cleaner I bought about the same time as the bike, pop off the top of the cleaner..no nozzle.. find a nozzle.. spray the UNI inside and out as per instructions.. left it 10 mins (instructions say 3 mins), went to wash up under tap...frigging thing disintegrated in my hands... is this what happens if you leave the cleaner on too long or do you think it was cleaned wrong before or maybe just old? The guy I bought the bike off was a complete numpty so... Going K&N but don't like the look of the K&N's for this bike.. standardizing is good though.. Guest Deven
This is the long term effect gas has on filters. I tried telling people this on the org. that it will literally melt in your hands.
Dr. Beardface
This is true, foam filters will literally disintegrate after too long. Quote 2004 TRX480R 30+ HP

airmobile101
I think everyone here agrees. Gas will eat away at a filter. I actually clean my filters in gasoline, but that filter usually last me 6 months before I swap it out for a new one. Not your fault Stewie. OTMTRX
Thanks for the offer El M. But this is for my XR400. Maybe it was just old or had beem washed previously in gas.
ridingred
A foam filter will do this over time whether gas is used to clean it or not.
