US, UN partnership 'key' to address world's ills: Guterres

The next UN chief Antonio Guterres emphasized Friday the need for a strong partnership with the United States to address the world's ills, including wars, human rights violations and climate change. "I believe that the cooperation between the United States and United Nations is a key factor in order to improve the present global situation," said Guterres, who will succeed South Korean Ban Ki-moon as secretary-general on January 1. Flanked by US Secretary of State John Kerry before the two went into a meeting, Guterres noted the importance of collaboration between the organization and the world's superpower.
