Venezuelan Archbishop Denies Supposed Expulsion

Caracas, July 15 (Prensa Latina) Baltasar Porras, Archbishop from
Merida, Venezuela, denied Sunday versions on the supposed expulsion of
a delegation of Venezuelan religious people that participated in a
meeting of the Episcopal Latin American Council in Cuba.

"That is false", Porras expressed to reporters at their arrival in the
country, when he was interrogated on versions of the supposed expulsion
diffused by local press media that attributed him criticism to the
Venezuelan government, expressed by the prelate.

The priest specified that the Venezuelan delegation had a satisfactory
stay in Havana including a respectful attitude of the authorities. The
return one day before, he clarified, was due to problems of logistics
of the air company in which they travelled.

In the meeting of the Cuban capital Porras was elected first
vice-president of the Latin American Episcopal Conference

On the other hand the undersecretary of the Venezuelan Episcopal
Conference, Aldo Fonti, said Saturday to the Bolivarian News Agemcy
(ABN) he was wondering why the version was given.

Fonti remembered that in a communication before his return, Monsignor
Ubaldo Santana, who was also part of the delegation, expressed his
satisfaction for the stay in the island.

The prelate - he said - mentioned the "beautiful reception that they
offered them, as much local authorities as Catholic civilians, and the
pleasant demurrage in a welcoming mansion of Havana."
