Guest ellbrum Posted March 13, 2012 Share Posted March 13, 2012 I have Windows XP, a Dell Dimension E510 Received a virus threat: W32.Blaster.Worm. I could not open anthing, not even Microsoft Security Essentials. I shut down the computer and restarted. I got the following: Rogue:Win32/FakeRean, Alert Level: Severe. Not sure what happened next but I was able to run a full scan with Microsoft Security Essentials. After completion, the scan stated 5 detected items (Rogue or Exploit:) were either removed or quaranteened. Question: In my 'control panel' I have a 'shield' icon divided into four-colored quadrants. It says "Security Center". Is this legitimate or is this the same shield I saw with the virus warning earlier today? I ask this because I also have Microsoft Security Essentials which protects my computer. If the 'Security Center' is a threat, how do I delete it from the control panel? When I 'right click' my only options are to open it or 'create a shortcut'. Microsoft Security Essentials is found in my Add/Remove Programs and general Programs, but not in the Control Center Security Center is only found in my Control Center Continue reading...
