I do not have any recovery disks. I did not add any new hardware. I deleted adobe reader and reinstalled the adobe reader. After that, vista only works in safe mode.

I have a Dell desktop running Vista Home Premium 32 Bit. I can only get

it to startup in safe mode. I tried using system restore to an earlier

date but that didn't help either. Is there something else I can try

without having to reinstall windows? Please help!! Thank you!

That would generally imply that you installed some hardware or updated a

driver. Remove the driver. The easiest place to do that is in Device

Manager.

Did you create a set of restore DVD's or CD's after buying the machine

as you should have? If so, wipe the disk and run the complete restore.

No need... the recovery discs will take care of it all.

But it looks as if the OP does not want to do that.

You can do it 100 times if you like. You only get the PROMPT to do it

once.

Yes...you will lose everything and end up with "clean install".

Before you reinstall...save any of your personal files to a backup medium.

You don't need to backup programs that you have disk for, you will need

to re-install them anyway.

If you downloaded any programs...keep a copy of the .exe if you

want...otherwise make sure you can re-download it.

Backup emails if you want to keep any.

Backup any saved data files.

You will also have to re-install drivers.

Some may be on the Dell disk (may even be a seperate disk for drivers).

Any drivers you got from a manufacturers site will need to be downloaded

again ( I always save the latest drivers to a thumb drive).

If in doubt...save it.
