OK I am pissed. I recently made a post about the border fence, saying
it was wrong. This is what happened.
My mom just tried to call me because my dad is ill in the hospital,
and she got a message from Nextel -- in Spanish. She couldn't get
through because, guess what, she doesn't speak Spanish. This happened
because of how many Spanish speakers are here from Mexico.
These ****ing losers enter this country ILLEGALLY, contribute less
than they receive in school and healthcare, are NOT citizens, and we
are not supposed to expect them to learn English. They shouldn't even
BE HERE in the FIRST PLACE. They don't respect OUR laws. They are
bloodsucking leeches on our society.
People say it's impossible to catch them. Oh? We had no trouble
rounding up Japanese people during WWII. Whenever you pull somebody
over, check for ID, which we do anyway. No ID? Look Mexican? Take
them down and investigate who they are. If they are not citizens they
get deported. After a few years of that the problem will solve itself
and they won't bother coming.
We need to ENFORCE our laws so that if my mom, who was BORN here
needs to tell me about my sick father, she can ****ing get through.

No, what's weak is asking us to know Spanish. My mom tried to call
me. I answered the phone after two rings. She told me that before
she got through that she had to listen to some message in Spanish,
like a menu with options. She has called me plenty of times and
nothing like that happened. There aren't any more details than that.
Perhaps if she and I were fluent in Spanish I could give you more.
Spanish this, Spanish that. Just learn English if you want to be
here. I think everybody would do themselves better by learning a
foreign language but a network expecting my mom to go through Spanish
is nonsense.

I very much doubt that Nextel has menus only in Spanish. More likely
she was so upset about your dad that she accidentally pushed a button
directing her to a Spanish menu and got flustered.

I agree, it is unfortunate that economics drives companies to have
multiple language menus, but that's the free market for you.
