WebDAV issues with Excel 2003 and Excel 2010

We are currently in the middle of transitioning from Office 2003 to Office 2010 and are using WebDAV mapped drives, utilising WebClient to replace the http paths with UNCs.

Everything in Office 2003 and Office 2010 works correctly with the exception of Excel 03 with xls documents and Excel 10 with xlsx documents when trying to Save the documents back to the WebDAV drive.

When trying to save xls documents from Excel 2003 returns the following message in a dialog box:

"The file 'test.xls' may have been changed by another user since you last saved it. In that case, what do you want to do? [Save a copy | Overwrite changes]"

If the user selects Overwrite changes the file is saved successfully.

When trying to save xlsx documents from Excel 2010 returns the following message to be displayed in a pop-up dialog box from the Start bar:

"Windows was unable to save all the data for the file \server\folder\~test.xlsx. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere"

Despite this error message, the file saves successfully.

Has anyone come across this before, or have any thoughts on where I can find settings associated with this? I've have traipsed through the Registry, but nothing has stuck out?

Any help would be very much appreciated,
Mark
