What can be done about a hacker who is using my email address to contact my friends and asking...

I reported another hacking incident to Yahoo a few days ago (because I uncovered their email address as being Yahoo). Have no idea if it is the same individual. They somehow were diverting my emails to themselves; both hotmail and gmail. Average 30-40 emails a day with both accounts and all of a sudden none.

I am getting paranoid about using the Internet. What do I need to do?

I only know about the request for money referred in the "Title caption" because my friend called me Saturday on my cell phone and asked what I was doing in Cyprus.
