Why am I being asked to activate a 2 year old installation of Windows?

My laptop is a Compaq Presario CQ61 and I'm running Windows Vista 32-bit service pack 2. I've had it for over two years. I turned it on today and it's asking me to activate Windows. I have no idea why it's doing this. It is a legitimate copy bought and activated two years ago.When I go to Control PanelSystem and MaintenanceSystem, under the Windows Activation section I have the message:"You must activate today.
