Toxic1
We have some intelligent Linkin Park fans here. So what are your thoughts? Do you think they have it in them?
Toxic1
Well of course I think they have a little growing to do (young band), but I think they'll do well. I forgot, just in case you haven't heard them: "Hole" http://s27.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0OZZWY3II9LRL3HLIQKWGFTEBV "I Swallowed Hard, Like I Understood" http://s26.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3PDT4SJVBLPP51LAFRRBXMY1DM And of course, the track I posted in the "Share A Song" thread: "Retreat! Retreat!" http://s11.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0M7STOAEK8X5V2MBP6WE09CD4L
Toxic1
Come on guys..........I know people are seeing this thread. Why don't ya at least say something about it? Good or bad. I even nicely posted mp3s. Now how many people do that? What if I was to say this is Chester Bennington's side project?
Suicide King
Ok, I downloaded the songs and I must say I am impressed. I really like their sound, and I'm not saying that just to be nice because I hate people who do that. The odd part of their music is that there are no lyrics, and songs like this annoy me, but in this case I don't mind it at all because the drumming and the guitar riffs make up for it. I could find myself listening to these guys when I'm in need of inspiration or just when I want to sick back and relax while posting on forums. Their music is powerful, creative and it just sounds good. But I don't think their music will reach mainstream status like LP's music has, simply because today's radio stations don't want to play 5 minute instrumental rock songs with no lyrics, even if it is good. BTW, I added the songs you posted to my daily music playlist  Quote |Myspace|Last.fm| [broken External Image]:http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/8841/somethingsigfr1.jpg
shirakawa_otori
These are really good instrumentals. The melody and execution are great. We can feel the music and try to de-code what it means just by the flow of the sound. I agree with Suicide King though, the fact that it has no lyrics, being instrumentals only, will probably keep this band from going mainstream (at least on such a huge level like LP...), but it's definitely a band with a good sound and talent. Thanks for introducing 65 days of Static  Quote http://www.sucksbbs.net/data/MetaMirrorCache/ae02029e59966e62acb48589e0ad898c.jpg My last.fm | My deviantart

Friðbjörn
i didn't understand what the title of this thread means. i still don't. what does "usurp" mean? stupid me anyway, after checking this thread out better i decided to dl retreat, retreat! which i am now doing hope it will be good. i like instrumental music, not just mr.hahn's songs. one of the songs i listen to a lot is an instrumental song almost 9 minutes by a band called coral. it's really great, maybe i should share it with you guys Quote [broken External Image]:http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/2784/lpfas08mostintelligentym8.jpg

Well, it's definitely not chill out music. And the whole no lyrics complaint everybody has: what can I say? About 40% of the music I listen to is instrumental music with some songs being as long as 40 minutes. A good way to put it is, sometimes you don't need lyrics to make you feel something, think of something, or be inspired. The music will move you in its own way. That's how you feel their collective energy. The message is in their music. Thanx to Suicide King and shirakawa_otori because if they didn't check this out, nobody else would have. And thanx for everybody's comments. This band really isn't high on my favourites, but they are raising a fuss with people in the underground. People really just love their energy and passion. They are a pretty good young band and that's about it for that.

Take their glory. The limelight. And it was used as a joke in the title of this thread. This band will probably never be mainstream because they have no lyrics and they use a little to much feedback noise and electronics. Toxic1
i know but lyrics help to realise what they were feeling at the time.... There are reasons why certain bands forgo lyrics. Well, I'm mean the music world is sad as it is. It would be more so if every band had to have lyrics and had to have this and had to have that. I don't need lyrics to know how somebody I hardly know feels. It's how I feel. Lyrics are not essential for great music.

Toxic1
what friggin dumbass makes beats that sweet and doesnt put lyrics on them. umm' date=' your not going to be mainstream with instrumentals.[/quote'] Perhaps they don't care if they are mainstream. I would take musical freedom and integrity, a decent living, and travel over a shitload of cash and compromise. That's probably what will end up happening to me since I make 10 minute instrumentals (give or take on average). And that's what's happening for all the instrumental bands I listen to. And there are a lot.

Toxic1
it's not bad' date=' i like them, but as said, probably not gonna make it mainstream, due to lack of vocals[/quote'] There is nothing special about making mainstream, unless making big money is your main motivation. Usually if you are mainstream, you have sacrificed some sort of artistic freedom and vision in varying degrees for the gain of others. Compromise is the main word when trying to make it big. That's why you'll find many of the most creative, dynamic, matured, and talented bands are hidden from radio and mtv viewers tucked away in Indie-Ville. They are free to do whatever the hell they want to do and have nobody breathing down their necks telling them they can't do this or can't have that on record. Or we need this kind of song. Or we want at least 4 or 5 three minute radio friendly tunes. 65 Days Of Static is a pretty young band, but they are already better than the majority of rock on radio today. However, they are nowhere close to being a favourite band of mine. Very far from it. By the way, what's the big fuss with "having to have vocals"? I like lyrics and vocals just as much as anyone, but I love my fair share of instrumental and sample based music. Great music is going to be great music, vocals included or not. shirakawa_otori
Honestly speaking, I don't listen to much instrumental music. Sometimes I listen to some classical music, but that's about it. So when I listen to rock music, I'm used to having someone singing, I think that's what happens to most people. It's just a matter of what we're used to, so not having someone singing sounds "strange". There's this one instrumental song that I absolutely, absolutely love: Tomoyasu Hotei's "Battle without honor or humanity", from Kill Bill Man, I love that song. Despite the fact that it had no lyrics and no singer, I did like 65 days of Static though, like I said before.
