We have a Windows 7 64bit image that several people spent a lot of time preparing, and now the system won't boot after running sysprep, and systems that got imaged with the same image, won't boot and get the same error. The error that comes up is:
"The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click “OK” to restart the computer, and then restart the installation."
I would like to know if there's some way I can repair the image so it will boot again. A lot of time was spent working on this thing. We think it is the actual sysprep
I have tried using a Windows 7 64bit repair disk, but it doesn't find any errors or repair anything. I can't find any System Restore Points. I was thinking I could maybe do a repair install, but the Windows install CD is telling me I have to boot into Windows run a repair install, and then select upgrade (thank you for this feature Microsoft).

I found a few setuperr.log files. I don't know if they are the right ones to look at. One was in C:\Windows\Panther and had:
the other one was in C:\Windows\Panther\UnattendGC

In the Registry Editor..
Browse to....
HKLocal machine/SYSTEM/SETUP/STATUS/ChildCompletion, and after highliting childcompletion,on the right hand side check for setup.exe. if the value is 1 change it to 3.(by double clicking on setup.exe and changing the value shown in the box).
But I couldn't find a ChildCompletion key.Browse to....
